Three years ago, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Spain with my high school class, and it was the best time. We got to travel to five different cities in Spain. I love all of these cities so much and would go back to each and every one of them.
Barcelona
I have actually never been to Barcelona, but it has always been on my bucket list. But I felt the need to mention it since it is the second biggest and most well know city in Spain. It is mostly known for its beautiful beaches and night life, but it is also home to La Sagrada Familia, one of the most famous cathedrals. The Sagrada Familia is still unfinished and has become a major symbol to Barcelona.
Madrid
Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain, and it is just so fun. The city has a mix of modern buildings and historic architecture. Madrid is most known for its fashion, shopping and very cool museums that hold amazing artwork, my favorite being Guernica by Picasso in the Reina Sofia. It is also home to the Plaza de Toros and many other bull fighting arenas. Bull fighting is a big part of Madrid’s culture and was very cool to see, although I did not experience an actual bullfight, it was cool to see the famous stadium. They also have the best churros de chocolate, and of course the famous churros of San Gines, that I got to have the best churros of my life at.
cordoba
Cordoba was honestly my favorite city that I went to in Spain, it might even be top five cities that I have been to in the world, it was so nice. It is a cute little town with very narrow roads that were all displayed with beautiful flowers. It is most famous for the Mezquita, a mosque that was converted into a cathedral. It is the most beautiful cathedral with its famous stiped arches and enormous murals. It is truly amazing and a must-see place. I always think about going back.
Seville
Seville, another amazing city. It is most known for flamenco dancing which is so fun to watch and to also try. While I was there, I did a flamenco dancing class, and it was honestly really fun. The city also has a lot of historical architecture, like the cathedral of Seville which I got to climb to the top of and saw the amazing city views. The Plaza de Espana is also a must-see place in Seville; I would definitely go back.
Granada
Granada comes to a close second favorite to Cordoba, the city is just so perfect. Granada is home to the famous Alhambra, which is a gorgeous palace that overlooks the city with jaw dropping gardens that you could walk through forever, it is seriously huge. I also got to see the Alhambra at night, and it is just as beautiful as during the day. It is also well known for its tapas culture, where many restaurants serve small portions of food to share with your company.
Toledo
If I could go back to Toledo tomorrow, I would. It is such a nice city with so much history inside of it, it is often called the city of three cultures because of how much Christianity, Judaism and Islam plays a part in making the city what it is today. The city is surrounded by the Tagus River on three sides, which I actually got to zipline across, and it is so gorgeous and makes the city stand out. It is home to the Toledo Cathedral, which is one of the most famous gothic cathedrals in Spain. When you are in Toledo, you feel like you entered a time machine with the cobblestone streets and old buildings–it is so perfect. The city is also known for their steel and swords craftmanship, which was very cool. Fun fact, most of the swords used in the game of thrones came from toledo. They also have the best paella and of course gelato. Toledo is also the home of the famous painter, EL Greco, and a lot of his famous artwork is there. I could go on and on there are so many interesting facts about toledo. It is truly a must-see place.
I love Spain so much and could talk about it forever, but if you listen to anything from this it is that Spain is a must visit place and definitely do not forget about the small cities that make up the amazing Spain.
