While struggling with writer’s block, I decided to resort to Google Images for advice on what to write for this week’s magazine. One writing prompt I found interesting was: “flesh out the ideal dream that you would like to experience tonight.”

I found this prompt the most interesting because lately I have been struggling with figuring out who I am, my skills, and what I want to do with my life (considering I have almost one year left before college graduation).

So with the prompt in mind, here goes my ideal dream for tonight:

As I sit in my dorm room, I plan out my schedule while listening to Lauv. I suddenly experience a shock in my chest that spreads to my mind. The shock transports me into the future where I am seen living a bright life with happiness radiating from my future body. I’m working a job that I love with co-workers, and a boss that I’m not only fond of but would consider each other family.

I see myself settled down in a beautiful and safe neighborhood (as safe as any place can be), living in a modern, but historical two-story house with plenty of space, and guest rooms for friends and family. I have one room furnished and painted for my soon-to-be adoptive child’s room. As of the moment, I sit in the living room procrastinating on the color and furniture for the room to make the house look cozy and safe.

As the vision of my future beautifully fades away, it is in that moment I am clear on what I want to do with myself. I see who I shall become; a strong independent woman who may not have the world figured out, but she is working on herself while working a job she loves, and life could not be any better.

That would be my ideal dream tonight. What would yours be?

Hello, sunflower! Alicia Maxwell, meaning noble which she tries to live up to! Currently is a senior writer for the Her Campus SBU Chapter, soon to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Being an English Lit, she loves to explore and write a range of topics. She doesn’t believe one should limit their skills or knowledge. However, her favored topics are investigative work (i.e., handling our insecurities and housing crisis). Alongside writing for Her Campus, she recently interned abroad in Ireland for STELLARS magazine. For her, it was an experience and an eye-opener. She had the chance to explore a different side of writing (culturally as well). The one article that stuck with Alicia the most was “Eight Gorgeous Irish Markets To Visit This Summer.” Alicia loves markets! Having the chance to explore a few in another country was a dream come true. Before that year, Alicia also served on the college newspaper as a feature writer. The BonaVenture (what a creative name), published articles she conducted on the campus community. Her favorite piece has to be “Campus Community Reacts To The Death Of Tyre Nichols.” It was also her very first article written for the newspaper. Last, but never not least, she had interned for her college archives performing research on a past Bonna Student, Roi Ottley. Her work was combined onto the college archive's website to update what information they had on him. Aside from her work as a writer and student, she enjoys taking walks with her head in the clouds seeing the world from another perspective. She also loves browsing Netflix, critiquing and analyzing the artwork.
