Time flew by. Today marked my final day as an undergraduate student. I felt a mixture of feelings I have felt before all at once. I felt proud, excited and nostalgic. With a little over a week left before graduation, I’ve reflected on all the amazing memories from the past four years. The tight-knit group of friends I’ve found at school has shaped me immensely. I am also beyond grateful for the academic opportunities. My peers, professors, friends and family made the past couple of years so special.

So, be present in college. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in all the responsibilities, which is great because you should take college seriously, but try not to wish it away. I now regret the number of times I wished away a week due to busyness. In hindsight, those weeks taught me the most about myself. You should want to keep yourself busy without running yourself dry.

Looking back at my college experience, I’m happy to say that I have no regrets. I said yes to new adventures, socially and academically. I got outside my comfort zone but rarely did anything I wasn’t deeply comfortable with. You meet a lot of individuals who don’t have the same goals, values or morals as yourself which teaches you a lot about what you believe in. I didn’t meet all my close friends in the first year of college. You have the power to decide who want in your life. College is the perfect time to learn how you will approach this life skill. Learn at a younger age who you should give your energy to, and if the individual doesn’t suit you, then don’t be discouraged. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons that will stick with me forever.

The same goes for classes. I loved the majority of my classes, but I know a couple of individuals who weren’t so lucky with their curriculum. If you know what intrigues you, then you have a say in the course of your academic future. If you’re beginning college, utilize the resources the college or university provides. Don’t be afraid to reach out to faculty or professors. I recently had many heart-to-hearts with professors who saw me grow as a student and a woman. It’s truly an amazing feeling, knowing they cared about your well-being, and vice-versa. Without them. I would not have had half of the opportunities.

I will miss college, but not reminisce in a yearning way. The chapter is done, and we have to accept that. Remember the highs and lows and know there will be many in your future. Stay in touch with those you deeply want in your future. And lastly, always stay humble and remember who made your achievements possible.
