I want to share a bit of my experience and enthusiasm for “The King of Pop” himself, Michael Jackson.

Since before I was born, my ears were blessed with music my parents listened to. I grew up and continued to love that music. Most of that music consisted of 1980s pop classics, 1990s rock and more classics from many years back. My all-time favorite genre is 1980s pop music. My top favorite artists consist of Phil Colins, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, Beastie Boys, The Police, Bon Jovi, Steely Dan and so many more like them. But my all-time favorite artist will forever be Michael Jackson.

I can recall a core memory, when I believe I was in fourth grade. There was a talent show that took place in an auditorium. I chose my talent to be Michael Jackson dancing. My favorite song when I was little was “Smooth Criminal”; one of Michael’s classics! I got up on stage and danced my heart out with my fedora and loafers. Many remember that day, especially me. I felt so happy to express my love for his music.

Michael is a legend with his musical legacy but also with his humanitarian and philanthropic legacy as well. Michael gave to give. He gave over $300 million to charities in his life. He also gave much of his time to those in need. For example, the “Pepsi Incident” occurred in 1984–Michael was in the process of shooting a Pepsi commercial when sparks from spark machines came too close to him. His head caught fire. He had multiple third-degree burns on the back of his head. Although he was severely injured, he visited many other patients in the hospital. He soon donated a hyperbaric chamber and donated a significant amount of money towards the preparation of the Michael Jackson Burn Center.

I could not imagine life without the imprint of Michael Jackson. He wanted to “heal the world” and “make it a better place” like he said in his song, “Heal the World”. An abundant amount of his songs had positive or impactful messages or even for ongoing issues. He redefined pop and humbly received the title, “The King of Pop”. Michael passed away 17 years ago. Fans all over the world mourn his passing. But we instead celebrate him. We appreciate all he has done for the world.

Michael is missed by enormous amounts of people. Recently, the Michael Jackson Biopic movie was released. I was overjoyed! I saw it twice already! I was brought to tears to see fans all over the world going to see this movie, it brought fans even closer and concluded in dance parties during the end credits.

One of the things that saddens me the most is that Michael was accused and charged of many different crimes involving children. He was found not guilty of every single one. Michael wanted to keep as many children safe and happy as possible. He loved children.

What’s your favorite MJ song?! Mine is “Remember the Time”.

We miss you, Michael. We love you, Michael. We also thank you, Michael.

Thank you, Michael, for everything. “The King of Pop”, lives forever.
