SPOILERS AHEAD: What’s Up with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

February 17th, 2023, was the premier of Marvel’s newest film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and let me tell you, Marvel has set themselves up for a new expansion to their universe in the best way.

WARNING: SPOILERS

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) consists of 31 movies, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania being the 31st, and has created a quite complicated and overall impressive universe that someone who hasn’t seen every movie, TV show, and post credit scene might not be able to comprehend or understand a scene to its full potential. In the MCU everything is connected, and I mean EVERYTHING. From small jokes to guest appearances, if you know Marvel, you know what I’m talking about. With that being said, Quantumania was the same way. Before watching this movie, I recommend watching Loki, the Disney+ TV show, Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the Avengers movies.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania introduces Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, Scott Lang (Ant-Man)’s daughter who creates a connection device with the Quantum Realm with her grandfather, Dr. Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas). When her grandmother, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), who was stuck in the quantum realm for about 30 years, tells her to immediately destroy the device. When unplugged, the device sucks Scott, Cassie, Dr. Hank, Janet, and Hope (Evangeline Lilly) back into the Quantum Realm where they become separated and have to fight the newly introduced villain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

The movie was giving a very Star Wars vibe with the new creature-like characters and amazing graphics that really sell the film. After Avengers: Endgame, this is the first real look we get into the Quantum Realm.

Quantumania sets the MCU up perfectly for phase five. Cassie Lang is on track to possibly becoming an Avenger and having a bigger role in the MCU. Kang the Conqueror is the new Thanos for the new set of Avengers to fight. I am super excited to see what Marvel has in store for the next couple movies especially with the new knowledge about the Quantum Realm and a new villain.

I definitely think that Kang the Conqueror will have a huge influence over the MCU especially after the Avengers ended Thanos. One thing that I think will become a bigger influence in future movies is Dr. Hank and his ants. In the movie, it was said that the ants advance at an especially fast rate in the Quantum Realm and they were able to build space crafts, weapons, and fight in minutes. Although they were in Quantum Realm, I feel like this idea will come up in future movies if the Quantum Realm is ever released and intertwined with Earth.

Overall, Marvel did not fail with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The movie is a perfect transition to what is to come for the MCU. I was a little disappointed with the lack of cameos throughout the film besides Loki in the second post credit scene. In my rankings, this movie falls towards the middle. I think this was a perfect addition to the MCU but there were a few aspects throughout it that don’t give the full Marvel feel. For Marvel fans and others just interested in the movie, this is a solid watch with cute, heartfelt family moments, awesome graphics, and great battle to conclude the film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is in theaters now and don’t forget to stay for not just one but two post credit scenes!
