At Bonaventure, the sun is shining and this is my favorite time of year to be on campus. Everyone is laying out in the grass, groups play Spikeball and frisbee, and conversations whirl around about plans for Spring Weekend. As we all spend more time outside these are my few reminders to help us all enjoy this time to the best of our ability.Â
- Keep up with your healthy habits!
While those suffering from seasonal depression feel a bit of a reprieve this time of year, do not rely on the sun to make everything feel better. If you’re on medication, keep taking it. Eat those fruits with vitamin D, exercise, or any other healthy habit that keeps your mental health where it needs to be. The sun is strong but keep up your routines just the same.Â
- Remember that your comments are unnecessaryÂ
The warmer it is, the more summer clothes you’re going to see. The comments on other people’s bodies are not appreciated. Body hair, cellulite, birthmarks, etc. are all natural things and just do not need to be brought up —they can just exist. Even if you think your comments are coming from a good place, think mindfully before you speak.Â
- Wear your SPF
Ironic that I am writing this while I am currently sunburnt. I love to have a nice tan but this leads to me not putting on any sunscreen, which never works well with my Irish skin. At least wear your facial SPF, it helps prevent skin cancer and wrinkles! Make sure to blend the sunscreen down to your next as well. Hot girls wear sunscreen if they know they burn.Â
- Work & Play
The only thing I really want to do when it’s warm is to lay outside on my towel and read. Unfortunately, we still have three weeks of classes and I have tons of projects to do. This is more a reminder for myself, but make sure you have fun outside and schedule time to get all of your work done. Today I am taking a long walk on the trail with my friends, but I’ve also blocked out a few hours before our walk to work on a marketing project. It’s all about balance.Â
- Water, water, water
When you’re laying out, it is so fun to have a refreshing beverage. My personal favorite would be a strawberry acai refresher from Starbucks (with no berries). While this drink is so delicious, it is important to pair this with my water as well, especially while I’m tanning. As long as I have an equal amount of water to whatever (usually lemonade) drink I am having, I can assure you I’m hydrated.Â
