Putting On The Mask: A Costume Ranking

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. It’s my Christmas.

The night brings me so much joy. Spooky decorations, kids screaming and giggling as they run from something scary, the parties.

But what brings me the greatest pleasure is costumes.

There’s something about dressing up as someone completely different. I don’t know what it is but it brings a different side out of me.

In honor of the best holiday being this weekend, I’m going to rank my past costumes.

1. Vampire

Starting off strong! If you know me, you know I am a vampire FREAK! Anything and everything related to vampires is something I can get behind. So naturally that would be my top rank. I mean I couldn’t stop dressing as one almost every year until I was 10.

2. Witch

This is another BANGER. On top of being vampire obsessed, I love all things witchy. From astrology, to tarot, to crystals, I love it all, I’d even consider myself to be a “witch.” So of course it has to come in at number 2. This was also the only other costume I would wear if I wasn’t a vampire.

3. Mangle

I love “Five Nights At Freddy’s.” It was a favorite childhood game of mine, and Mangle has always been my favorite character. Come time the movie came out, I was a senior in high school, and my best friend was also deep into the FNAF lore, so we decided to go as Mangle and Puppet. Definitely a costume I could never forget about.

4. Violet Beauregarde

As a kid one of my favorite movies was Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, specifically the Johnny Depp version. This was something my mom never understood about me, and she thought of it as the creepy version. I, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough. Now on top of that, this is something I don’t like to tell people, but my middle name is Violet. So, I think it is really funny that I did this for my freshman year of college. The makeup was also extremely cute.

5. Skeleton Pirate

Again, the MAKEUP! I love a complex makeup look, and I not only got to do it on myself but also helped out my bestie at the time do hers. We got creative with this one too, we didn’t buy anything for these costumes, just used stuff we found in old bins in my garage. And yet they turned out perfectly how we wanted at the time. Now, we thought we were so hot in middle school, but this was middle school so obviously we looked like a couple of dorks looking back.

Have a happy (and safe) Halloweekend! I know I will be living my best life.
