A poem: Inanimate Infatuation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

I am high-end and

convenient to your busy life.

Slick against your clammy hands,

glossy and radiant to your dilating eyes.

You cannot keep your greedy clutch off me.

After all

I am your life,

compacted into my ever-thinning plate of metal.

Without me

you are an outcast

banned from unlimited access to communication.

Your fingertips glide against my smooth face.

Constantly glancing in my direction,

sometimes the guilt catches up to you.

You trust me

with every detail and secret

that composes your life.

I am irresistible.

Lighting up with excitement,

I draw in your weakening attention.

You’re obsessed with me.

Growing anxious when apart from me,

you cannot be without me for too long.

I am precious to you.

I am the first one you check in the morning and

the last one you see before you sleep.

Addicted,

you love me.
