Perspective on Trump’s So Called ‘Locker room Talk’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

“I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy.” Donald Trump continues. “You can do anything.”

In a similar story to the one Trump told Billy Bush of Access Hollywood, little boys and girls experience things just like what Trump explains as “locker room talk.”

Imagine this: He just starts to kiss you. You don’t know if you want to kiss him back. It doesn’t matter; it will still happen.

You lie on the ground, still with your arms crossed over your body like a corpse at a funeral home, guarding your body so he won’t touch you – it doesn’t work.

Many people live through similar assaults to what Trump describes as ‘locker room talk.” I refuse to let my experience with sexual assault, and the experience of others, be taken as something men casually do and accept.

These actions are not to be accepted by anyone, let alone a man running for the highest position in American government.

Trump’s comments in a video The Washington Post leaked reflect criminal actions

Under New York law sexual assault consists of sexual acts perpetrated against a victim without his or her consent.

Trump, consent is when someone gives you permission to do something.

When Trump “doesn’t even wait” and “grabs them by the pussy” he adds to the 288,820 victims of sexual assault, according to Rainn.org.

Every two minuets an American is sexually assaulted and the future president adds victims to those numbers.

What Trump describes in his video, forcible touching, the law considers a class A misdemeanor, in which he could face up to a year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

Trump did not define a clear victim in this recording, but this attitude Trump has towards sexual assault perpetuates violence against people.

I would like to ask Trump how could he talk about women with such little care or even human decency?

He has a mother and a daughter. Would he ever speak to them like this?

No one should want a president who perpetuates violence in his actions and words. The words he chose, and continues to choose, reflect the words so many attackers have used. What makes Trump so different from them? Stripping away the money, power and titles Trump did what many women never want to happen – ever.

This is the man that America elected president.
