It’s that time of year once more. Purple, orange, and black colors scatter across front lawns. Giant blown-up characters and costumes make their debut.

With that said, it is so close to 2026 Halloween! I’d like to share with you a few of my old and new Halloween activities that you might want to try this year. Some are more on the basic side, but some I feel could make your Halloween a little more enjoyable.

1. Scary Movies

When I think of Halloween, I think of scary movies. It is embedded in the culture of Halloween for most people to watch scary movies. For the longest time, I was very scared to watch any horror movie growing up. Just recently, I have been watching the Halloween movies; I had never seen them before. But now, I am invested and have seen eight of the Halloween films so far. I had no idea how much I would enjoy them. I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone as well. If you don’t like horror movies, try a few!

2. Custom/DIY Costumes

Spirit Halloween and Amazon are great resources to find a multitude of costumes. However, they can become scarce, expensive, and eventually limited in unique costumes. I used to buy from Spirit Halloween to quickly find a costume when I needed it last minute. I have also bought costumes online from Amazon. The problem is that some of those costumes can be “cheap” looking but still expensive. When ordering a costume online, you may not even get it by Halloween because of how backed up online stores can get during the fall season.

My suggestion is to create your own costume, either DIY or put together a costume with multiple different pieces. This year, I am doing a duo costume with my boyfriend. I am going to be Snoopy, and he is going to be Woodstock! I noticed Halloween was coming up, and I still hadn’t got us costumes. Since I love Snoopy, I introduced the idea to my boyfriend, which he happily wanted to do. Not long ago, I visited many stores and put together our costumes, which were inspired by Pinterest. I am very happy with the outcome and can’t wait to wear it!

3. Haunted House

As I said, I was never into horror movies, so why would I like haunted houses? I have never been to a haunted house until a few weeks ago. It was my best friend’s birthday, and she wanted to go to a haunted house, and I gave in. However, I ended up really enjoying it. It was thrilling and a lot of fun!

4. Horror Games

I have always enjoyed video games. For some odd reason, I have also enjoyed horror games most of my life. I really enjoy playing horror games with my friends; it becomes scary but also hilarious. I love to watch my friends get chased while I laugh hysterically. My friends and I enjoy playing at night to really scare ourselves. I recommend trying horror games with friends; it can be hilarious.

5. Music

Last but certainly not least is music. I love, love, LOVE music! My favorite artist is Michael Jackson; he has so many songs that are perfect for a Halloween party or hangout! Halloween playlists can set the mood for Halloween or can make hanging out with friends even more enjoyable.

These were a few of my favorite Halloween season activities. I hope you can try one of these if you haven’t already.
