My Fall Semester Reading List

I set a goal at the start of the year to read 12 books. Let’s take a look at the last few for the year.

  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

I saw the movie when it came out, so I’ve been putting this off. I wanted to forget some of the details to make reading it more fun! I loved the movie, and I’ve heard great things about the novel. Lots more detail, and overall, just a fun time. I plan on making the fox cardigan from the movie, so it’ll be fun to read this while working on that!

  • Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I actually read this probably in middle school, but I remember it being good. I want to see if it stands the test of time. I love fantasy stories, even better if there’s some romance! This will be a nice easy going read that’ll keep me occupied for a while. I found out it’s a series, so if I still enjoy it, I might check out the rest of it!

  • Dracula by Bram Stoker

I want to have a dark romance vibe this October, and I think this puts me one step closer. I saw trailers for Dracula: A Love Tale last year, but didn’t get to see it. I think reading Dracula beforehand, while being a different story, will give me some background information. Plus, it’s one of those books it seems like everyone’s read. Might as well!

  • Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu

Again, dark romance kind of October. I saw somewhere that this predates Dracula, and is shorter, so I feel like I can get through it pretty quickly. The semester is a busy one, so I needed a quick read on here! I’ve seen mixed reviews on the writing, but I love the idea of the story, so I’m going for it.

  • A Trashy Romance

Look, there’s plenty of amazing, well-written novels out there. Beautiful imagery, almost poetic, strong female lead. But I have a shameful past of reading god-awful fanfic, and there’s something comforting about reading an honestly bad novel. Like, the guy is famous, the head of the mafia, the girl is probably an orphan who doesn’t know her parents were rich, and they have to get married for some reason? Possibly hot take, but I loved the movie “365 Days” because what do you mean he just kidnapped her? And it took like a week for her to fall in love? It’s not a healthy dynamic, but I really don’t care, I eat that up. I don’t have a specific book in mind, so please give me some recommendations!

I would love to add more to this list, but it’s a low chance I’ll get to read all of these, so I don’t want to set myself up for failure. I’ve been keeping a reading journal this year, so expect a long book review at the end of the semester! Wish me luck on completing my list!
