When being away at St. Bonaventure University, I find it difficult to find real NY-style pizza in Western New York. I am from Long Island, about an hour car ride from NYC. There is nothing better than going home for the holidays and breaks for some delicious pizza. I wish in the small town of Olean or Allegany I could find pizza that reminded me of home.

My friend recommended that me and my friends go to Brooklyn Bakery. My friend found out about this quaint, unheard-of place from our admission counselor. He said this place will remind us of home and it is a must try. She said it tasted just like NYC pizza and it was the best pizza in town. The five of us decided to go and to see if it was better than Tasta Pizza or Mangias, which are two other pizza places in town.

My friend Jamie put the bakery in her GPS so we wouldn’t get lost. The place is tucked behind Family Video in Olean and across the street from Tasta Pizza. Make sure to put it in your GPS if you are not familiar with the town of Olean and the surrounding shops.

When we pulled up it looked like it was in someone’s garage. We didn’t know what to expect but we wanted to try this delicious pizza. We walked in and saw a wood-burning pizza stove and a small gathering place that looked like a place from the 1800s. I felt I was in someone’s home awaiting a delicious pie. It was old and rustic, but smelled delicious. The two workers were very nice and we ordered one regular and cheese pizza pie for only $32.50 and a free liter of soda. It looked and tasted exactly like a typical NYC pizza pie.

The bakery is very small so there is very limited seating. I would recommend calling in advance to place an order. There is a small table with barstools where you can gather with friends. My friends and I decided to take the pies back to our dorms. We all can’t wait to take the quick trip to Brooklyn Bakery again.

All St. Bonaventure students, faculty and staff need to try this pizza before the school year comes to an end.

If you would like some NYC-style pizza, go to Brooklyn Bakery and call 716-372-1800. The bakery is open Monday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The address is 111 N 14th Street, Olean NY, 14780.
