This is my junior year of college. I am still processing this, and it shocks me every time I say it out loud or think about it. The last two years have felt like both the longest and shortest years of my life. I cannot believe that I am an upperclassman. When I think back to my freshman year, it feels like a lifetime ago, and my sophomore year feels like it was yesterday. Now, I am two months away from turning 21, and I cannot believe how fast time is flying.
I am living in a townhouse this year, and the walk to main campus is about 15 minutes long. I love walking, especially in the warmer months when the sun is shining and the warmth of the sun is hitting my face. I love living in a townhouse. I love being able to make my own meals, have my own room, and hang out with my roommates every day. I am living with some of my best friends, and we have made it so cozy and welcoming.
The start of the school year is such an interesting time for me because I am living in a new space, starting a new schedule, and learning so many new things. It can be overwhelming, but it can also be so exciting. One thing that I have learned about starting something new, especially the start of a new school year, is the importance of organizing and getting a schedule for yourself. Scheduling time to study, hang out with friends, show up for clubs and sports, and make time for yourself is so important.
Making time for myself is often something that I forget about doing until I am burnt out and I force myself to take a break. I often get caught up with everything else going on, and by the time I make time for myself, it is late at night, and I just want to sleep, which I procrastinate doing until 1-2 a.m. Some of my favorite activities to do when I am taking a break include watching TV, listening to music, going on a walk, and hanging out with my friends.
As the first few weeks of school pass, I am trying to remind myself to enjoy the moment. Even though I get caught up in different classes and activities, it is important to take time to enjoy the moment. We will never get this time back, so we should enjoy it and stay in the present moment.
