If Cellphones Didn’t Exist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

Oh man! What would we do if cellphones didn’t exist!? Would we wither away and die in a corner under our bed? Or would we actually go outside, read a book, chat with friends? I would like to believe that we would survive if we weren’t able to go through our Twitter feed for hours on end, or even take selfies with new Snapchat filters!

Don’t get me wrong, we would definitely be inconvenienced by the fact we wouldn’t have a calculator, map, or camera all inside one little shiny box. Our purses would be heavier and our shoulder would hate us for it. Not to mention it would be a bit harder to text your mom during class requesting pictures of your dog.

But, think of the more positive side of things. We would all have so much free time we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves! You could read a book, go for a walk, whip something up in the kitchen, or even spend uninterrupted hours with your friends! Speaking of friends, just think of how much richer your relationships would be with them. You would be forced to talk to them face to face anytime you needed a little pick me up, good solid girl time, or if there’s a problem you would be able to figure it out more effectively.

So, here’s a challenge, power your phone off for an hour and just do something! Go for a walk on the trail, get a coffee with a friend, or if you’re like me write an article for Her Campus! It’s not forever but sometimes it’s good to just disconnect from everything even for a short amount of time.
