Halloween: It Feels… Different

Halloween is easily one of my favorite holidays. Not only is it within the best months of the year, the “ber” months, but it is also clumped together with the best holidays. To me, the best holidays are Christmas, Thanksgiving, and of course, Halloween.

Some may not agree, but I believe they are the absolute greatest holidays. Something that I know everyone can agree with me on is that these holidays feel… different.

As a kid, Halloween was the only thing I looked forward to in the fall. Dressing up as my beloved characters and running around the town trick-or-treating was my all-time favorite.

In my hometown, there is something that we call “the circle.” It is quite literally just a huge circle of houses, but that was the absolute best place to go for trick-or-treating.

These houses gave away full-sized, and sometimes, if you were lucky, king-sized candy bars. I remember that my best friend from when I was younger lived in the circle, and my family and I would meet up with hers, and we would have a gigantic group of friends and run around, filling our bags full of candy.

After a couple of hours of running from house to house, our bags were finally overflowing with candy. Then, we would race back to her house, dump our candy out on the table, and sort through what we wanted. My best friend, her brother, my brother, and I would trade our candy and end up fighting for these trades like we were working on Wall Street.

Even though we would always end up arguing over candy, I wish I could go back to when Halloween was all fun and games with my friends.

Growing up, people tend to think that Halloween is for little kids, and they stop dressing up and going out, which, personally, I think is ridiculous.

Halloween is for everyone, of all ages, and I believe that you are never too old to go trick-or-treating. So what if you’re a teenager? Senior year, a large group of my friends and I dressed up and went out like we were little kids again.

Now that I am in college, I believe this statement still stands. So what if we’re getting older, who cares! Of course, college Halloween is completely different, but I absolutely love that everyone still dresses up as if we were kids going out trick-or-treating.

Going out on Halloween night and seeing everyone in crazy costumes makes me so happy because it shows that we can still have fun even though we are getting older.

Although it’s not the exact same, I love that we are still able to bring back that childlike joy that comes from Halloween as we are growing.
