It’s that bittersweet moment of the semester. All the good and the bad moments come to an end until next semester. This was my first-ever college semester. I have no regrets or second thoughts about this school. Before arriving on campus, I had expected a respectable, academically powerful, and school spirit-powered university. That’s what I found as I attended Saint Bonaventure University.
I hadn’t necessarily expected myself to change, though. I thought I would be extremely anxious and behind on everything. However, I cannot remember one moment of being painfully homesick. Of course, there were times I wished I had been home instead of going to class. But I persevered, and I never really felt too alone. I also feel that in this short amount of time, I have become more responsible and reliable.
My best moments of the semester were ones I wouldn’t have known I would make. Some things were so simple, but they meant so much to me. First of all, my incredible roommate. We had decided to be roommates as we got to know each other online before the year started. We have grown so close and have recognized many similarities, but of course, differences too.
We learned about each other’s differences and embraced them. For instance, we both love 90s grunge music, but she also loves country, and I love new wave. I have enjoyed being roommates with her, she acts like my mom, making sure I have my stuff done and have eaten every day. However, she will be transferring next semester, which I believe will be a large setback for me, but we will forever be friends.
A few others of my best memories include meeting new people. I meet a few people in my class with whom I’ve become pretty close. Whether we went to Dunkin’ together or hung out at basketball games, it was always a good time. I have gotten acquainted with a few clubs, such as this lovely club, that led me to wonderful people. I have experienced many opportunities I would not have thought existed if I hadn’t decided on this one-of-a-kind school.
I cannot forget the academics. Yes, there will always be classes to dread going to every day. But one class in particular I loved attending. It was a writing class, and the professor reminded me a lot of my favorite English teacher in high school. Overall, it was a huge learning experience for me in my first semester in college.
I am beyond excited for what next semester brings me, even though I will not have my lovely roommate. We will always stay connected and share our crazy stories often. Thanks to St. Bonaventure, memories were made every day.
