Campus Cutie: Jessica Laursen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

Campus Cutie: Jessica Laursen

Hometown: Caledonia, New York

Year: sophomore

Major: journalism and mass communication

Activities: resident Assistant, student ambassador, executive board secretary for Student Government Association.

Relationship Status: single

Favorite Color: purple and turquoise

Her Campus: “How would you describe yourself in three words?”

Jessica Laursen: “Smiley, loving and energetic!”

HC: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

JL: “I don’t think there is one specific thing I want to be when I grow up, I just want to be happy and live each day to the fullest. I do want to have a family and a nice job—whatever it is I’m doing!”

HC: “If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?”

JL: “Tom Hanks because I love his movies and the sound of his voice. I feel like he is a really cool person and I’d love to hang out and chat with him. I would also love to have dinner with Olaf!”

HC: “What is your biggest pet peeve?”

JL: “When people say ‘Guess what?!’ and I’m like ‘What?’and they’re like ‘Oh, nothing.’ Because I get really excited and then there is nothing…”

HC: “Any advice for incoming freshmen?”

JL: “Keep your eyes open to all opportunities because they are endless and so many doors will open for you as long as you give yourself the chance.”

HC: “Favorite part about SBU?”

JL: Everything comes together when I’m at Bonas. When I’m gone, I miss it like crazy but when I’m here, everything makes sense. This place has changed my life for the better and the people are like one big happy family. A lot of people say ‘Walt Disney is where dreams come true’ but Bonas is a pretty close second.”

HC: “Who is your role model and why?”

JL: “My mom–she is my best friend. She has taught me a lot about what it means to be yourself and to not be afraid to go after what you want. She has supported me though it all and someday I hope to be half the person she is.”

HC: “What are a few of your hobbies?”

JL: “I’m really good at having my own dance parties and sometimes my roommates join the fun. My go-to song is ‘Shut Up and Dance.'”

HC: “What is your favorite quote?”

JL: “’Everything happens for a reason, live it, love it, learn from it! Make your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile.’”
