If you could have any super power what would it be?
If I could have any super power, it would be time travel. It would be the ultimate gift to have a second chance at a first impression or a do-over on a great experience.
You are very involved on campus, what are some of the groups and activities you are apart of? I’m the Public Relations Co-Chair for Campus Activities Board and I served on the Orientation Team for three years, two summers as a student leader and this past summer as a co-coordinator.
The Buzz in one of the most infamous parts of Bonaventure, ranked Top 5 college stations in the country! What does it take to run such a successful radio station?
It takes discipline. Through managing The Buzz, most of my interactions aren’t with students. They’re with community members, university officials and technology resources. Some days it gets almost too overwhelming, but I think back to how many students find their place at WSBU or how many listeners rely on us for a daily pickup. That makes it worth it, and after a good stretch and a coffee my discipline kicks in once again.
It also takes compassion, oddly enough. I try to encourage our board of directors to work hard, rather than scaring them into it. By listening and remembering to work as a team, the board has accomplished so much in the last semester, and a happy board leads to happy staffers, which is why we’re here in the first place.
What is something a lot of people probably don’t know about the Buzz (or running a radio station)?
One thing not many people know about The Buzz is that is was founded in 1948. Since then it has taken on several new names, such as, WOFM, WSBC, Power 88, Bona’s Best Rock and now WSBU The Buzz.
As a senior what is your best piece of advice for the rest of us Bonnies?
My best piece of advice is try what you want, when you want. If your professor mentions an organization or internship that sounds appealing, don’t wait for a friend or peer to do it with you. This might be my Clare courses coming through, but at Bonaventure we stress community, self discovery and exploration. Learn what makes you happy, what makes you feel whole and why you’re here by trying everything that interests you.
What is your absolute favorite thing about Bonaventure?
My favorite thing about Bonaventure is the opportunity. At so few schools would freshmen be offered leadership positions or hands-on experience in their fields. Being looked at as an adult who can take on whatever task necessary is always the biggest reaffirmation that I chose the right college.
