It’s now November. My least favorite season is coming up: winter. There is going to be cold, uncomfortable, wet, and inconvenient weather. But there are ways I make the most of the wintertime.
Since I was around four years old, I’ve been going to Syracuse men’s basketball games. My mom purchased season tickets for us every year. Since starting college, I have only been able to go to a few home games.
I miss the atmosphere, the crowd, and the game so much. There were many days in high school that may not have been the best, but I remembered that my mom and I were going to an SU game. Instantly, my day was better. I was able to cheer loudly and have fun with my mom. Many times, I was put on the fan cam and recognized by many friends and teachers. My mom and I already have a few games we plan to go to when I’m on break; I couldn’t be more excited!
I have met many players and a coach from the SU team. I even missed a track meet in high school to meet my favorite player. To me, there is no better feeling than attending SU basketball games. There have been multiple records of fans in the Dome where SU plays. Especially when we have rival games, the Dome is as loud as ever. A few of SU men’s biggest basketball rivals are Georgetown, Duke University, and UNC.
Lately I’ve been sad because of how much I miss going to SU games. Of course, we have basketball on campus, which is fun, but it’s not nearly the same enchanting feeling. However, I look forward to winter only for basketball. I am overjoyed that I get to go to a few Syracuse games this season!
There is another thing that’s prominent in winter and loved by most people. I love the incredible feeling of coming inside into the warm and toasty atmosphere after being in the bitter, ugly cold. I immediately snuggle up on the couch with multiple blankets after that feeling. Blankets give me a sense of comfort, relaxation, and, of course, warmth. I think I can speak for most people that it’s very comforting to come home and relax with a big blanket and fuzzy socks.
Therefore, winter may have flaws in my opinion, but I make the most of it by spending time at basketball games and curling up underneath a cozy blanket. However you spend your winter, I hope you enjoy it. If you’re not interested in basketball already, I encourage you to give it a try. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch; it’s fast-paced, energetic, loud, and exhilarating. Enjoy this winter, whether you are relaxing under a blanket watching basketball on the TV or going to a game to gain a thrill; I will be doing both.
