9 Things That Men and Women Both Think

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

We tend to focus on the differences between men and women, forgetting that we have a lot more in common than we think. From our worries to our guilty pleasures, we’re all having a lot of the same thoughts.

1.)  “Is this outfit okay?”

Whether you’re a mother of three or the captain of the football team, we all give ourselves the same double-glance when walking past the mirror in the morning. From club dresses to camo, we wear what we think looks the best and settle for nothing less.

2.)  “Do I smell okay?”

Whether we’re masking our failures to shower before class with cologne or perfume, nobody likes to smell anything less than fresh. At the same time, we’re all asking our friends and ourselves whether we’re ready for those close encounters or not.

3.)  “Do you really think they’re into me?”

No matter what your gender, chances are you’re always wondering who’s got their eyes on you. While the ways we attract our future companions might vary, we’re all looking for that special someone.

4.)  “I feel like I’m gaining weight.”

Whether male or female, nobody likes packing on those extra pounds. We notice when we’re gaining weight in the wrong places and might have to take those dreaded runs. Likewise, we all revel in our weight-loss accomplishments.

5.)  “Damn, I really need to clean this room.”

Disorganization knows no gender and so we’ve all found ourselves wondering when we’re going to throw out the candy wrappers, piles of clothing and books that cover our bedroom floors. Chances are, it’s likely that we all choose the most convenient option as well—to save it for another day.

6.)  “I seriously need to stop spending so much money.”

We’ve all got our eyes on our balances, and it’s likely that we’re all wishing our financial standings were a bit more comforting. Likewise, no matter how different our shopping sprees might be, we all get a thrill from a good buy.

7.)  “I don’t want them to be mad at me.”

We’re all concerned with managing our relationships and trying our best to avoid conflict with the ones we love. With most of the decisions we make, we wonder who will be affected and how they’ll react—just hoping that nobody’s feelings get hurt.

8.)  “Should I post this?”

Whether we’re posting nature shots, selfies, prom pictures or inspirational quotes, we all experience that momentary doubt over whether or not we should hit the “post” button. At the same time, we love the “likes,” “favorites” and “retweets” we get.

9.)  “I really don’t want to do this work.”

Let’s be honest, nobody looks forward to hours spent in the library doing reading assignments and writing papers. So, whether male or female, it’s likely we’re all wishing the work load was smaller and the fun was more plentiful.
