5 Weather-Savvy Essentials for St. Bonaventure Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

We all know that St. Bonaventure is known for experiencing all four seasons in a matter of days, which is why it’s important to be prepared for anything. Here are five essentials you’ll need if you’re living at St. Bonaventure:

1. Cute rain boots

Even when it’s not raining on campus, the ground is most likely wet just from the result of melting snow. Cute rain boots can be paired with almost any outfit if you go with brown or black. Or, if you want to make a statement, bright pink rain boots or rain boots in a fun pattern can bring energy to a rainy day.

2. A long winter coat

You may think winter coats that go down to almost your knees look frumpy and bulky—and they kind of do. However, you won’t even think twice about putting it on in the morning when you see three feet of snow outside of your window. Black is always a good staple color for a jacket because it looks good with any color pants or leggings.

Money saving tip: Places like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx sell jackets like these for very reasonable prices!

3. Jeweled headband or hat

Winter headbands were all the rage this winter, whether they had a flower on the side of them or gems. Personally, I like the ones with some bling because they are an attention-grabber. Many hats this season were designed like this too if you’re more of a hat person. Either way, some kind of headgear is definitely recommended to avoid the Bona Bug.

4. A puffy vest

Not only are these easy to find in town at Old Navy, but they’re a simple layer to make any outfit look a little more put together. Puffy vests can dress up leggings and a long sleeve t-shirt, or they can dress up jeans and a sweater when paired with a statement necklace. The vests can also act as a light jacket on the rare warm days on campus or an extra layer on those more frequent bitterly cold winter days.

5. Funky umbrella

Just as important as a pair of rain boots that make a statement is an umbrella that does the same. Nothing is worse than sitting in a class, looking out the window and seeing rain, knowing that the jacket you wore doesn’t have a hood. This leads to frizzy hair and a bad attitude. Having a small umbrella that can fit in your backpack is the cute and easy solution to this problem. Umbrellas with patterns from a store like Vera Bradley add some light to the sky and almost make you wish for rain just so you can show it off!
