End of an Era! :(

By the time this is posted, there will be just over two weeks until graduation! How is that even possible?! It feels like just yesterday I was moving into college as a freshman and here I am, a graduating senior!

Honestly, looking back I wasn’t too sure if Bonaventure would be my place. I had always had my heart set on going to Keuka college. I remember telling my guidance counselor in high school that I was not going to look elsewhere because I had always wanted to go to Keuka. She then went on to tell me that I needed to apply to at least one more place.

Funny enough, my principal at that time was a Bona alum. He overheard our conversation and told me that I should schedule a tour with Bonaventure. He absolutely loved this place. Told me that “there’s something in the water over there and I don’t know what it is, but it’ll make you fall in love with that place”. I went on to laugh at him but decided you know what, I’ll schedule a tour just to say I did and go on about my day.

I came here for my tour and honestly wasn’t too sure how I felt about it. It was very quiet, very mellow. It reminded me of my hometown, which I loved, but at the same time was looking for something different.

I went back to my high school and told my principal that I liked the place but still was unsure. That’s when he said that I HAD to see one of their basketball games. I looked at him kind of funny, but was like you know what… I love basketball so why not. My brother, his best friend, my friend Alexis, and I decided to buy tickets for a game and off we went.

This was my second time on campus. Going into this day I still was torn between where I wanted to go.

After the game, my brother looked at me and said, “this is where you’ll call home for the next couple of years”. I don’t know if he was saying that because he wanted to come to more games… but turns out he was right. I absolutely fell in love with this place.

Here I am 3 years later, about to graduate with my bachelors, and still love this place like I did from that day.

If there’s one lesson, I could give to graduating high school students it would be to explore your options and be open for new opportunities.

Jordan Swift is a second year writer at Her Campus at SBU chapter. She plans on writing about current trends, different events that have happened in her life, movies that she likes to watch, and how they relate to her life. Jordan is excited to get to know all her fellow Her Campus sisters. She can't wait to read all the creative writings that her chapter of Her Campus has to share with others in the world.

Jordan can be described as a senior at St. Bonaventure and is currently in the 3+2 program, with her undergraduate major being Public Health with an Occupational Therapy concentration. She has hopes of becoming an Occupational Therapist for adolescents in a school district. She has shadowed several different Occupational Therapists and has grown to love the profession.

When Jordan has free time, she looks forward to spending time with her family and friends, going on hikes, listening to music, watching movies, such as "Matilda" and "Hocus Pocus", and going on different spontaneous trips. She enjoys volunteering at local SPCAs, as well as volunteering at food banks.
