There’s coming back to campus, and then there’s coming home to Savannah State. With a week dedicated to school spirit, student talent, entertainment, and alumni connections, SSU’s 2026 homecoming gave the Tiger family plenty of reasons to celebrate. Under the theme “Savannah’s Homecoming on the Water,” the October 12–18 lineup brought together the traditions that make an HBCU homecoming such a meaningful part of the college experience.

The celebration began Monday with the Homecoming Pep Rally at Tiger Arena, featuring special guest Noodah05. Opening the week with music and Tiger pride set the tone for a schedule filled with opportunities to step away from everyday responsibilities and celebrate being part of Savannah State.

Wednesday placed student ambition in the spotlight with Black Wall Street, a student entrepreneur marketplace at the King-Frazier Atrium. Including student businesses in the homecoming celebration created an opportunity for the campus community to support its own. It also highlighted the creativity and work involved in building a business while pursuing a degree.

That evening, the Homecoming Bonfire: Trap Trail Ride brought a different theme to Payne Field. Presented in partnership with SOWEGA Rising, the event’s lineup included a skating rink and food trucks. The combination added a playful twist to the week’s festivities and gave students another setting to spend time together.

Thursday’s schedule included Alumni Connection and the Mister and Miss Savannah State University Coronation. Held at Tiger Arena, the coronation placed campus royalty and student leadership at the center of the celebration. Alongside the week’s entertainment, the ceremony made room for the formal traditions that remain part of Savannah State’s identity.

Friday brought the Campus Parade and Yard Fest to Alexis Circle, with an alumni fish fry and alumni Greek stroll-off included in the afternoon’s events. Bringing current students and returning Tigers into the same celebration connected different generations of the Savannah State experience.

The festivities continued that evening with the Homecoming Greek Step Show at Tiger Arena, featuring special guest Travis Porter. With both an alumni stroll-off and a step show on the schedule, Greek life held a prominent place in the week’s celebration of campus culture.

Saturday’s lineup extended the celebration into downtown Savannah with the City Parade before turning toward the Tailgate Experience and homecoming football matchup against Fort Valley State University at T.A. Wright Stadium. Together, these events linked the university’s homecoming traditions with the wider Savannah community.

The week closed Sunday with the Homecoming Ecumenical Service at Elmore Theatre. Presented in partnership with Greater Impact Campus Ministries and recognizing its 20th anniversary, the service offered space for faith, fellowship, and reflection.

Across the week, Savannah State’s homecoming made room for many parts of the Tiger experience: entrepreneurship, leadership, Greek life, athletics, and the relationships that continue after graduation. For current students, it was another chapter in their college story. For returning alumni, it was an invitation to reconnect with the place where their own stories began.

At Savannah State, the orange and blue always lead back home.
