People always ask me why I chose to go to St. Ambrose, and the response is always the same. I wanted a small school and I had family that went to SAU, so it seemed kind of perfect for me to go to SAU too. (Despite the fact that I immediately loved the school the second I stepped on campus). But the real question isn’t why I chose St. Ambrose; the bigger question is why did I stay

1. The people

You know those times when you get really fed up with $40 parking tickets? You’re frustrated with limited food options and you wonder, “Why did I choose to spend the next four years here?” It’s the people; friends, professors, and the staff. Do you really think that if you went to a Big 10 school that a professor you never met would take the time to help you work around attending a class that you really do not want to take, yet still completing your minor? No, probably not. They got 30,000 problems and your comfort level in the classroom ain’t one.

2. The campus

THE CAMPUS. For a small campus there are MANY beautiful sights. Fresh snow, falling leaves and the Iowa sunset sky. The quad when it FINALLY gets warm and students come out from hibernation and start grilling out, playing bags and jamming to music. I love the fact that I can walk to class and see at least three people I know. I went to a high school of 4,000 people and I didn’t even know the people next to me at graduation. Also, I low-key love the fact that SAU smells like dog food – don’t ask me why. I love it because that’s Davenport for yuh, everyone knows it and loves D-Port in spite of its dog-food-smelling air. It’s fine.

3. The bars

Is it wrong to say the bar life around Davenport is one of the reasons I chose to stay at Ambrose? Probably, but it is so true! I feel bad for those college students who don’t have dollar bottles at Rookies Sports Bar and Grill, karaoke at Circle Tap, live music at KilKenny’s, or a dance floor like Carriage Haus. And the fact that those aren’t even HALF of the awesome bars (or deals) in Davenport makes me feel pretty blessed. #BlessUp
