As I’m sure some of you know, this past summer was One Direction’s 10th anniversary! 10 years ago, Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall, and Zayn all auditioned for the X-factor and the biggest boy band in the world was formed. They went on to release five albums before going on a hiatus in 2015 and moving on to their solo careers. Unlike other bands, One Direction didn’t really stick to one set sound throughout all of their albums. Each one had a completely different aesthetic and gave off a different vibe. You can tell a lot about a person based on which one is their favorite in my opinion. I’m here to break that down for you!

Up All Night (2011)

If Up All Night is your favorite album you have probably been a fan since the very beginning. You still quote their X-Factor video diaries and always loved watching “one direction funny moments” on YouTube when you were in middle school. Your friends would probably describe you as young at heart and you just want to live your life to the fullest.

Take Me Home (2012)

If Take Me Home is your favorite, you’re an overall really fun person. You just want to have a good time all the time and “live while we’re young”. You’re also a hopeless romantic. You’re a sucker for a cheesy rom com and probably want one of the love songs from this album to be played at your wedding. I’m sure you watched their movie This is Us more times in quarantine than you’d like to admit.

Midnight Memories (2013)

If Midnight Memories is your favorite, you probably grew up listening to your parents’ classic rock albums. Louis Tomlinson was your favorite member back then and you still love his solo music today. You’re a really adventurous person and you’re always down for a spontaneous night out with your friends. Chances are you’re also a fan of 5 Seconds of Summer and wish they would all go on tour together again.

Four (2014)

If Four is your favorite album, I bet that you can remember the moment you found out that Zayn left the band (I was in French class) and you’re still upset about it. You are probably really into indie or alternative music now. You’re a thoughtful person and love listening to music with meaningful lyrics. That being said, if you can figure out what the lyrics to “Girl Almighty” mean, please let me know.

Made in the AM (2015)

Last but certainly not least, Made in the AM. If this album is your favorite, you’re probably a big Harry Styles or Niall Horan fan now. You’re a sentimental person and you love to look back on the good times you’ve had. You’re also probably a loyal friend who will always be there for the people you care about.

Hopefully one of these days we’ll get a reunion and some new songs, but for now One Direction has a pretty great variety of music to listen to.
