Valentine’s Day is a day that some would like to ignore while others wish it would last all year. Despite those opinions, there are plenty of movies to watch in honor of a day all about romance. So, if you’re looking for something to do on Thursday, whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or Single’s Awareness Day, we have compiled a list of movies that will create the perfect movie night. Some are older while most are newer releases, but either way these movies are sure to pluck at your heart strings and maybe give you a love story to dream about. No matter what, here is our list of the most romantic and appropriate for the holiday.
- The Notebook – This movie is a must for Valentine’s Day because it shows that true love lasts a lifetime. Through the ups and downs, we loved watching Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams star as a crazy-in-love couple spends one amazing summer together just to meet up again later on.
- This Means War – This action packed romance is perfect for those who don’t want a mushy movie, but one that still includes romance. Starring Reese Witherspoon as the girl who has to decide between two friends and spies, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, this movie has the perfect mix of romance, action and humor.
- Valentine’s Day – As the name suggests this movie focuses on the holiday, and is perfect for everyone as it touches on every situation possible for someone caught up in the hype of the day. The cast is filled with stars and although some viewers may think it jumps around too much, each situation is filled with humor making it an enjoyable film.
- The Lucky One – This new release starring Zac Efron came into theaters last spring and was a huge it. The moral of this Nicholas Sparks story? You never know who will show up on your doorstep, so maybe, just maybe, you should take a chance on them.
- The Proposal – This hilarious film starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock is the perfect movie for a fun date night or for a group of girls hanging out. Although the end is predictable, it is still a perfect movie for the holiday.
- Crazy Stupid Love –This movie, on the other hand, is completely unpredictable which makes it that much better. Steve Carell stars as a man who is on the verge of divorce, but then encounters womanizer Ryan Gosling who soon finds himself falling head over heels for Emma Stone’s character. The twist at the end and the perfect amount of comedy make for another great movie choice.
- The Vow – The idea of waking up and not remembering your spouse is a terrifying one, but Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams work through the obstacles and bring this movie that’s based off of a true story to life.
- 50 First Dates – If you can stand Adam Sandler, this movie is pretty sweet. Everyone wants someone as devoted as Henry (Sandler) who takes his girlfriend (Drew Barrymore) on a date everyday even though she doesn’t remember any of them the next day because of her amnesia.
- 27 Dresses –This movie is for the girls who are anticipating all of the weddings they will be in after the numerous proposals on the Valentine’s. Katherine Heigl is the perfect maid of honor. After all, she’s done it 27 times already.
- A Walk to Remember – Although this movie based on the Nicholas Sparks book came out back in 2002, it is still a top contender as it shows how someone can change because of love. Shane West’s character is a rebel who falls in love with Jamie, played by Many Moore who suffers from leukemia. His devotion to her and his drastic character change can make any girl’s heart melt.
