Top places to visit in Davenport, Iowa

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

“There’s nothing to do”, “I wish there was more fun things to do here”, “I’m so bored.” We’ve all said these once or twice. But maybe you’re not expanding your options and adventuring out. So before one of these lines comes to mind or blurts out, grab a friend and consider trying out one of these places that I think are must stop places in Davenport, Iowa.

1. The Freight House Farmers Market

If you love fresh vegetables and fruit, homemade baked goods, crafts or even just want some fresh air, then the farmers market is the perfect place for you. Dozens of vendors fill the area, guaranteeing you won’t leave empty handed. Not to mention, it’s also a great place to grab some lunch down by the river where there is tons of healthy options and usually always a live band playing. I recommend the woodfire pizza and homemade peanut butter as they are to die for!

2.  Modern Woodmen Park

Batter up! Home of the The Quad Cities River Bandits, Modern Woodmen is always a fun time for anyone. The River Bandits play quite often here, along with other fun activities. Not only are you watching some great baseball, but getting the view that comes along with it. It overlooks the river and bridge, along with a giant Ferris wheel which all look beautiful lit up at night.. So make it a relaxed night, grab some popcorn and a friend and come support your local baseball team under the lights.

3.    Figge Art Museum

The Figge is the place that brings art and people together. Art of many different cultures, times, and feelings are exhibited throughout this beautiful building. You might even see a piece done by someone you know, since some artists are even local high school and college students. It also offers art classes, special events and there is even a sit down restaurant. While it is open to the public, it is also free to students if they bring their student ID!

4. Whiteys

As I am sure most of you have your favorite ice cream place that you swear is the best, but this is my ALL TIME favorite ice cream place. With dozens of flavors to choose from, you are guaranteed to cure that ice cream crave of yours and to go back tomorrow for more. But hey, it’s okay to go more than once a week because it’s that good! They even have their fall pumpkin flavors out now that you don’t want to miss. Whitey’s has numerous locations across the quad cities, with one even a walking distance from Ambrose!

5. The Skybridge

Located in downtown Davenport, this bridge offers a great view overlooking the Mississippi River and the rest of downtown. It even has LED lights giving it more of an effect, making the walk through a little more fun.
