Top 10 Ideas to Add to Your Winter Break Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Ice skating

Find the closest rink, grab your group of besties and skate to your heart’s content! You can go inside or out but I recommend out if it’s not too cool because it’s a more authentic experience!

Photo Shoot

After you go ice skating, it’s obviously time for a photo shoot in the local park or somewhere they have lights and decorations up. I mean, when else are you and your high school friends all together to get an updated cover photo for Facebook?

Christmas Exchange

Post shoot Christmas party with sparkling grape juice anyone? This is the perfect time to catch up on all the drama from the first semester, figure out who is dating who and then exchange some hand made and other thoughtful gifts with one another.

Binge Disney +

If you’re a Verizon user like me, then you’re also super stoked about your free Disney+ subscription and it’s time to start watching the Mandalorian and find out where all these baby Yoda memes are coming from!

Movie Marathon

Instead of hoping on the bandwagon, stick with the good ol’ DVD player and have a Star Wars or Harry Potter movie marathon! My favorite is doing this with my mom and sister or with a group of friends. Either way just sit back and relax and enjoy time with one another!

Read a Book For Fun

Something I feel like a lot of us forget, it that we don’t actually need a screen to be entertained. If you’re like me and you pre-ordered Flea’s recent memoir Acid for the Children, then you’ll be reading this over break and won’t have time to sit through a movie when you could be diving into a good book. You can’t go wrong with a classic, a John Green novel, or even re-read one from the Harry Potter series!

Christmas Baking

Now you can’t expect to sit through all of these movies or flip through all of those pages without some snacks do you? Crack open the cookbook and find some hidden treasures or break out the traditional Christmas treats you make every year with the fam. What better way to spread Christmas cheer than making food for all to… eat!

Cooking

Baking is one thing, cooking is another. If you’re like me, it’s time to get a little better in the cooking department. It’s time to make your boyfriend a nice candle lit dinner or treat the fam to a special night in. Whoever it’s for, go for it! Find a couple recipes online or some traditional family ones or even just throw stuff in the pot and hope for the best, get what you need from the store and then go to town. You’ll probably be surprised with what you come up with!

Workout

After all this eating you know what that means… it means we all made a new year’s resolution to lose weight and hit the gym. Good grief… But break is a great time to figure out a good routine for yourself and start getting used to it!

Trip

Amidst all these wonderful activities at home, why not plan a little get away somewhere? This could be a girls trip to Galena, going up to Chicago with the bf to see the German Christmas market or heading out to a concert with some friends. Search and you will find a fun event to attend in a city near you!

Have a great winter break everyone as well as a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
