Stinger Style: Tis the Season for New Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

It’s that time of the year again! Fall is the return of so many beloved favorites: Halloween, football (cuties), and PSLs! But of all the great things that come with fall, the best is definitely the new fashion. So ladies, ditch your basic wardrobe and spice up your style with this year’s fall trends.

1. Duster Coats

Duster coats are back, but they’re so much better. For those of you that don’t know what they are, imagine a trench coat, but with a modern twist. Dusters are lightweight and looser fitting, perfect for a cool fall day. They are usually full-length (hits at the knee or longer), so dusters also make a great layering piece for when the season gets chillier. Forever 21 has a great selection, but this one is my personal favorite! This trend is so chic and would definitely make a great piece in your closet this season!

2. Roll Neck Sweaters

If I said a roll neck is a modified turtleneck, would you still be interested? This trend is full-blown this season, but not turning many heads. And I seriously don’t know why! Roll necks are crazy cute. They aren’t like the 90’s turtlenecks we were forced to wear as kids under our overalls. Roll necks are just sweaters with a high/thick turned-over collar, and extremely fashionable. They’re easy to throw on, just like that trusty crew neck you wore two days in a row, but make you look so much more polished! I just picked this one up from Charlotte Russe (it’s sleeveless), but take a chance and look here for more.

3. Tartan

Tartan, or better known as plaid, is not a shocker. When comes fall, comes flannel season. Do yourself a favor and try something totally new! That’s what trends are all about. Instead of just plaid flannels, try a tartan scarf. I’ve got my eyes on this tartan dress from Target, and it’s on sale (lucky me)! But if plaid scarves and dresses aren’t your style, Target as a huge selection of tartan-patterned pieces and I’m sure you’ll love something if you dare to look.

4. Thigh High Boots

Or really, anything knee-high and higher. Thigh high boots are back again this season and I’m so excited! They’re definitely a bolder fashion statement, but worth the risk. Don’t mistake these for the gaudy, patent leather boots you might be thinking of. The thigh high boots coming back this fall are reminiscent to the Stewart Weitzmen All Legs Over-the-Knee Boots. Thank the fashion gods for cycling this trend back this fall so I can finally buy a worthy dupe! Check out this insane replica on my wish-list, or take a look for other thigh high boots to try this fall.

With these new four trends up your sleeve, be bold this fall with style! Opt for some of these fun trends and play up your wardrobe, instead of getting too comfy in those sweats. Walk the sidewalks of SAU in confidence (look good, feel good – am I right?) and maybe turn a few heads while you’re at it. Fall has just begun, you might as well start it in style.
