It’s pretty obvious that Mother Nature is not ready for spring, but after a long, gloomy winter most of us collegiettes are.

For a majority of the last four months we have spent too many hours inside. Winter is the perfect excuse to stay in with your favorite movie and feast on any fast food that will deliver to your dorm room. But that is not the case for spring.

Soon enough the weather will get warmer and we will have more opportunities to spend time outside. For SAU students there are a few attractions that are a must-see around the Quad Cities.

Here are the ‘Top 4’ places to go/things to do around the Quad Cities this spring.

1.     The Figge Art Museum: The Figge is located about a mile from campus in downtown Davenport. St. Ambrose has an institutional membership at the museum, which means that admission is free for SAU students. The museum has both permanant collections and new exhibits that open every season. Bring your SAU student ID card and spend an afternoon exploring the Figge.

2.     River Walk: The River Walk is a quick car ride from campus. When the weather gets warmer head down and take a walk along the Mississippi. The scenic river walk is obviously a free way to spend any day. Stop at a local coffee shop and pick up a cup of coffee to sip on during your afternoon stroll.

3.     Freight House Farmer’s Market: This farmer’s market might be open year round, but spring is a great time to visit and pick up the best local produce. You will find everything from fruits and vegetables to dips and salsas. Freight House is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Gather up your roommates and pick up some fresh produce to make your next ‘family dinner.’

4.     River Bandits game: Modern Woodmen Park is the home of the Quad Cities minor league baseball team, the River Bandits. The team is preparing to begin their 2013 season with their home opener in two weeks. Tickets will cost no more than $15 and as little as $5. Whether you like baseball or not, River Bandits game are a great way to spend a night out with your friends. If you are of legal age you can even enjoy a beer or two while watching the game!
