After years of spending way too much money on bras, never being able to find a swimsuit that fit, and some serious neck and back pain, I bit the bullet and got a reduction. Here’s how my process went and why you should totally do it if you’re considering one.

Recovery was surprisingly easy

The day after my surgery I was in the car with my friends going to get ice cream. Granted, I don’t think this is recommended, but I was going stir crazy and needed out of the house. (Recovery actually takes a full 6 weeks to be completely healed, but by week 3 I was back to my normal day to day activities, excluding any heavy lifting)

Bras are so much cheaper

I am used to spending about $50 bucks a piece on my bras but after my surgery, I went to Aerie and got two bras that were on clearance!! I’ve never been able to shop clearance rack bras.

Working out has gotten so much easier

I used to hate running because things would move and bounce way too much and it made me feel self-conscious. Also, when lifting weights my form always looked weird because I was so disproportionate.

I can finally see my waist again!

I swear this was a real thing. I pretty much didn’t have a waist line because my chest covered it. Now, I can see my waist again and it’s amazing!

Clothes fit so much better

I haven’t worn a V-neck since like freshman year of high school because it looked inappropriate every time I did. Now I get to wear so many different styles of shirts that I couldn’t before.

It has inspired me to hit the gym more

Since my surgery, I have lost an additional 15 pounds from just living a healthier lifestyle. Having the surgery made me feel so good about myself that I was able to carry it into other parts of my life.

My self-confidence has skyrocketed

This one is related to everything that was already stated, but feeling so much better about my body has helped me to be way more confident in just about everything I do.

I said good-bye to neck and back pain

I used to get horrible neck and back pain when walking, sitting in a desk, or leaning over for an extended period of time. I haven’t had any of these issues since my surgery and I notice my posture is a lot better as well.

Insurance made it surprisingly affordable

I was lucky enough to receive insurance approval for my surgery so they covered just about 99% of the cost for the procedure. This allowed me to not have a financial burden after the surgery.

All in all, I am so much happier with my decision than I ever expected to be. I was worried I would regret it or not like the results, but I haven’t had a single regret. Every individual is different and every person is beautiful just the way they are. I never once felt like I needed to change myself, but I wanted to change to have a better, healthier life. If you are someone considering this procedure, I can’t express enough how much I recommend it.
