Mega Movie Marathons You’ll Love Watching

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Now is as good of a time as any to indulge in some marathons of some classic movies! I am going to give you my personal recommendations as well as how long it would take you to complete and then you can take the reigns and decide which one(s) you indulge in :)

Star Wars – 24 hours & 50 minutes

This series if definitly a go-to in my book. When I don’t know what to watch, I automatically put in A New Hope or Revenge of the Sith and then go from there. Here is the chronological order to watch the movies in based on the flow of the story:

The Phantom Menace / Attack of the Clones / Revenge of the Sith / Solo / Rogue One / A New Hope / The Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi / The Force Awakens / The Last Jedi / The Rise of Skywalker

But in my book, A New Hope always comes first!

Middle Earth (Hobbit & Lord of the Rings) – 20 hours & 15 minutes

You can watch these as trilogys if you would prefer, but I think knocking them all out in one marathon is the way to go! Here is a list of all of the films included in this middle earth series:

An Unexpected Journey / The Desolation of Smaug / The Battle of the Five Armies / Fellowship of the Ring / Two Towers / Return of the King

along with a link to proper meals for a Hobbit Day celebration such as this!

Harry Potter – 19 hours & 39 minutes

I am always in the mood to sit down and take a trip to the magical world of Harry Potter! These are classics that will never go out of style especially the first 3 in my opinion. Here is a list of all the movies:

Sorcerer’s Stone / Chamber of Secrets / Prisoner of Azkaban / Goblet of Fire / Order of the Phoenix / Half-Blood Prince / Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 / Deathly Hallows Pt. 2

PLUS a link for some homemade Butterbeer you can try making while you watch!

Pirates of the Caribbean – 12 hours & 33 minutes

Jack Sparrow is one of the funniest characters I’ve seen in any movie and he always makes me want to watch this series, especially the first two! Here are all the movies in order:

The Curse of the Black Pearl / Dead Man’s Chest / At World’s End / On Stranger Tides / Dead Men Tell No Tales

and a like to my favorite scene out of all of the movies!

Jurassic Park + World – 10 hours & 4 minutes

If you are in the mood for some real action then you’ll want to dig into the Jurassic Park movies and add on the Jurassic World ones as well. I love Chris Pratt in the new ones, but Jeff Goldblum in the original one always saves a special place in my heart. Here are all of the movies to include in this movie series:

Jurassic Park / The Lost World / Jurassic Park III / Jurassic World / Fallen Kingdom / Dominion (June 11th 2021)

as well as a link to a funny vine someone showed me a while back – if you get it you get it.

Baseball Series – 13 hours & 13 minutes

Get it, like the world series, but with movies! This marathon includes some of my favorite baseball movies (look for the Sandlot series in my trilogy article TBD). The list of movies I came up with include:

Bull Durham / Major League / A League of their Own / Rookie of the Year / For the Love of the Game / Field of Dreams / Bad News Bears.

Well get started, because there’s no crying in movie marathons!

Toy Story – 6 hours & 24 minutes

Childhood classics the whole family can enjoy along with all of your favorite characters – you can say hi to a few of them with this link! This movie order is pretty self explanatory:

Toy Story / Toy Story 2 / Toy Story 3 / Toy Story 4!

Marvel Cinematic Universe – 50 hours & 15 minutes

Better get started on these soon – they’ll take you a while… over 2 DAYS to be exact! Here is the cinematic universe order to get you through all of these:

Captain America: The First Avenger / Captain Marvel / Iron Man / The Incredible Hulk / Iron Man 2 / Thor / The Avengers / Iron Man 3 / Thor: Dark World / Captain America: Winter Soldier / Avengers: Age of Ultron / Ant-Man / Captain America: Civil War / Black Widow (2020) / Spider-Man: Homecoming / Doctor Strange / Black Panther / Thor: Ragnarok / Guardians of the Galaxy / Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 / Avengers: Infinity War / Ant-Man and The Wasp / Avengers: Endgame / Spider-Man: Far From Home

(Sorry, the picture isn’t quite up to date)

A lot of these movies you can find streaming on Disney+ & Netflix or stop by a Redbox and see what they have. Now go pop the popcorn, good luck & enjoy!!!
