Collegiettes, time is flying by. It is already April, and summer is fast approaching. While some of us already know what we are doing this summer, many of us are still trying to make plans for those very important three months.  Summer is the perfect time for relaxation, career opportunities, or making some extra money. Here are some ways you can make the summer not just fun, but productive too!
Â
1. Â Apply for internships
It’s not too late to find the perfect internship for the summer. Keep applying, and the number of internship opportunities still available might surprise you. The summer is the perfect time to get a jump-start on your career. There are a few great sites to check out when you are looking. Internships.com and Internmatch.com are two sites that list positions available in every field, from accounting to sales and design, there are so many options. These sites are great because you can search not just by occupation field, but also by location and whether the internship is paid or not.
Â
2. Â It’s simple– Have fun
Okay, obviously this isn’t an option for everyone, but a simple way to spend your summer is by truly enjoying the time off.  Enjoy your last, or one of your last, summers before officially entering into the real world. Take a class—and no, I’m not talking about the academic kind. Learn how to cook or take a yoga class. Go to the library and get that book you have been wanting to read.  Find a cool craft or recipe on Pinterest and try it out. Go lay outside and get some sun. There is plenty to do if you want a summer full of relaxation and no worries.
3. Â Find a summer job
Â
Couldn’t find an internship or don’t need one and have the whole summer? Look for a summer job. Many places will hire even into June. Go home and apply for jobs at local grocery stores, retail stores and restaurants. Make a day of it, applying to as many places as you can. If you are interested in working somewhere but are not sure if they are hiring, just go in and ask. It can’t hurt anything. Who knows—maybe this can turn into a job you can come back to during other breaks from school. Save the money to pay off student loans or to treat yourself!
Â
4. Â Take a vacation
I know, easier said than done. As college students, it is our job to be poor and to not be able to afford nice trips. However, this isn’t always the case. It is not too late to plan a summer trip with your friends! Pick a place and then check out vacationrentals.com. This site offers listings of condos and houses, which can be rented for a night, a week, or even a month, depending on the individual listing. If you are smart, you’ll be able to find a deal that is much cheaper than a hotel room would cost.   Check out one of the travel sites, like Expedia or Orbitz, for cheap airline tickets, or make the trip into a road trip with your friends and drive to your vacation spot. Take advantage of this amazing season called summer while you still have the chance!
Â
Those are just a few ways to make this summer much more exciting. Start planning now, and you could make summer 2012 the best one yet.Â
