I Asked Women to Share One Piece of Advice They Would Give To Younger Girls. Here’s What They Said.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

In the spirit of Women’s History Month, I wanted to focus on all of the GOOD that women do for the world. And my goodness, there’s a lot. Besides the obvious fact that we can grow a human life inside of us, women have the ability to achieve an endless amount of goals. So, I went around and asked random women, “If they could give one piece of advice to younger girls, what would it be?” Here’s what they said.

“You are no less of a woman because you lack a trait or quality that the girl next to you possesses; you were not created to possess that trait or quality. Be confident in the fact that you were perfectly and wonderfully made, and use that knowledge to lift up yourself and those living among you.” (Sam)

“Never settle for mediocre. Always set your goals high and reach higher. Push yourself to be the best version of yourself that you want to see.” (Brooke)

“Don’t sweat the little things. If in a year from now it’s not going to matter, then it’s not worth your mental energy right now. Give your focus to the things that really matter.” (Riley)

“You don’t have to be friends with everybody. It’s better to have a very small group of true friends then a larger group of “surface” friends.” (Chelsea)

“Never put someone else’s needs before your own. No matter what situation you are in, you are the priority.” (Kaitlyn)

“Be kind to yourself, both mentally and physically. Learn to let go of things you can’t control and be grateful for every single day.” (Logan)

“Do not change who you are to make someone else happy or to be with someone. Find the people who love you for who you are and those who allow you to flourish and shine. Only then will your light glow at its brightest.” (Steffany)

“I would tell women younger than me to do everything they can to broaden their world view. Talk to people that they don’t agree with, do something that makes them uncomfortable, try new things. In turn, this will help them develop a greater understanding and appreciation of life. (Katie)

I was lucky enough to have an overwhelming amount of responses to this question, and there are many more answers that I wasn’t even able to fit into this article. One thing that I learned from this whole experiment is that when women have a chance to help another woman, they will jump at the opportunity. So, this is your friendly reminder to lift up those women around you. We are a team. Let’s unite and help each other, one kind word at a time. That’s what HerCampus is all about, right?
