Are you trying to eat healthier but finding it hard? There are some wonderful options in the Café that can help you feel great about what you are eating. As a student athlete I think its super important to eat things that will fuel your body. BUT I also have a few major food allergies so I have found some of the healthiest sides of the café in my own journey to eat right!
One of the best ways to know what the café is serving is to download the new BITE+ app, it has listed what the Café plans to serve that day and I have found that this is a HUGE help for me and anyone who is looking to eat healthy. You can also find the tenative menu posted on the campus social media! Obviously we have all noticed that things are a bit different this year and that the options are a little more restricted, but Sodexo has worked to try to keep the most visited stations open.
For breakfast you can never go wrong with an omelet made by Owen! You get to pick all of the things that are in the omelet and you can also request a different form of egg to make it. I usually opt for fresh eggs, onions, peppers, bacon, and sausage. The center station also generally has a meat option and usually either pancakes, waffles, or French toast. Personally, I haven’t tried most of those things because I can’t, but my teammates seem to love them!
Now for lunch and dinner there are even more options to pick from. One of my all-time favorite stations in that Café is the sandwich line. Very similarly to Owen’s omelets in the morning, at the sandwich station you can customize a sub or wrap. This has been a staple for me while I’ve been at school. The line is fast and who doesn’t love a good sandwich??? Another great station in the Café is simple serve, they have options that are free from the some of the most common allergens. They always have fresh vegetables and some protein option. This year there has been a lot of different options available. If your anything like me, you also like to have a pretty good sense of what you’re eating. The café does a really good job telling me how they prepped something when I ask. They are awesome! The vegetarian/international station always have some really good options too. Let’s not forget about the salad station, personally I only eat salads as a side or with other food because I never really get that full after them but be my guest to try out the salad bar!
Now it’s hard to forget about the Rogo food court. Tres Habeneros is the closest thing you can get to chipotle on campus. Their burritos are massive and their bowls aren’t much different. Sub Connections is just like it sounds; it is a sub stand that has sooooooo many toppings available. The grill has a veggie burger option, a regular burger, grilled chicken (which is really good) and chicken nuggets. My biggest thing is that I feel like I am eating healthier when I have control of what I’m eating, that’s why I love getting to pick what’s on my sandwich or bowl.
At the end of the day being a well fueled student is the goal. My biggest goal is to be happy with how I feel and perform. So, if you are looking to eat healthier this year these are some great places in the Café and Rogo to try. Remember no matter what you are BEAUTIFUL!
