Hopefully at this point in our lives we have stepped foot into a library at least once. Whether it was to check out the latest of the 50 Shades of Grey books, find the perfect chick flick for a night in or to actually do research for that huge paper, chances are you have probably seen the inside of a library.
Amid all of the beautiful weather that we have been graced with, it might be nice to step inside the St. Ambrose library next week and participate in some of their activities in honor of National Library Week. Every year, the staff at the SAU library comes up with new ways to celebrate that are appealing to students. Last year, for the first time, the librarians put together a live “Angry Birds” game in the lobby. This year, the week is going to be packed full of games and ways for students to win prizes.
Start your Monday off a little bit better by stopping by the library all day on April 15, for Cookie Day. All students can grab a sweet treat before heading to class or hitting the books. Wednesday, April 17th, calls all poets to the Library as they are sponsoring a Book Spine Poetry Day. Students just have to put together 3 or 4 books to create a poem with their titles, and then email the picture to the library or upload it to their Facebook page.
There are a number of events that are ongoing over the entire week as well. Letter boxing is a new activity this year that students can obtain the materials for at the circulation desk. There they will receive a log book and clues to their next stop on their way to a prize. Also throughout the week there will be a library card tree displaying various cards from all over the United States and even a few countries abroad. Every time students are in the library they are encouraged to sign up for a drawing for prizes that will take place on Friday, April 19 at noon.
National Library Week will conclude on Friday with life size “Angry Birds” from noon-3:00 p.m. Students will get the chance to launch a stuffed “Angry Bird” into a stack of boxes and compete against others to see how many they can knock down.
So if you happen to have a slow week, or just want to take a break from studying, don’t be afraid to head over to the Library and see what activities and prizes they have in store. After all, who doesn’t like free cookies and prizes?
