Ladies, festival season is almost here and whether you’re a hardcore camper at Bonnaroo, a city chick at Lollapalooza, or keepin’ it close to home at the Mississippi Valley Fair, it’s never to early to plan that festival attire.
Festival style doesn’t necessarily mean you have to rock that flower headband (so 3 years ago), those high wasted booty shorts or those super stylish, super strange outfits Pinterest and Cosmo tell you to wear. We all want to look like Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner while we’re listening to our favorite bands but festivals are about endurance. What will never go out of style: comfort.
Festivals are all about having fun with your friends and dancing around like no one is watching. Festivals are an all day, sometimes all weekend event (it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon). If you’re thinking about your outfit you’re not having enough fun. So here are some, always stylish, always comfortable, festival “go-tos.”
1. Chuck Taylor All-Stars. Total festival necessity because of there comfort, durability, and rock star look. Also, sandals are a safety hazard. You don’t want to break a toe in a mosh pit because someone stepped on you.
2. Shorts. With the summer heat shorts are a great option to keep cool, while looking cool (cheesy, I know)
3. Band Tee’s. Some people find wearing band tee’s at concerts a little cliché but in reality it’s the perfect setting. Band tee’s are relaxed and comfortable.
4. Tank Top. If you’re one of those people mentioned above, here’s your alternative.
5. Wide Brim Panama Hat. If you are going to a festival all weekend you don’t want to have uncomfortable sunburn on Day 1. Keep that beautiful face protected with a hat.
6. Kimonos. Here’s a way to add style to your comfort. Layering is all the rage and kimonos are light and comfortable while adding some personality.
7. Summer dress. In the California or Chicago heat, a summer dress can often be cool and comfortable. WARNING: avoid white (never know when a summer storm will appear) and fabrics that easily show sweat.
8. Boots. This is a broad category but there are just so many options. Combat boots can be comfortable and stylish at the same time, while rain boots are a great choice if you’ll be in a muddy location (again, never know when there will be a summer storm).
Honorable mention: Anything that has fringe on it. I just like fringe and it makes any outfit more interesting and cool. Perfect for a festival.
