Davenport’s Hidden Treasure

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

How many times do you think you have driven on the same street? Ten times? 100 times? Well have you ever walked on that street? I know that seems a little silly, but your perception can turn a full 180 by taking the time and focusing on what is around you. A couple of weeks ago, this happened to me.

As I was searching frantically for a new job in the Davenport area, I was trying to find anything, and anywhere. I was driving up and down the downtown area looking for anything that might spark my interest. I parked my car and just started walking down 3rd Street. As I was looking for a restaurant, something else caught my eye. Between two small businesses was a large cafe. The name of the place is called Downtown Central Perk, sound familiar? As many of you many know already, the name is closely related to the Central Perk in the television show Friends.

Much like the Cafe that is featured in the television show, Downtown Central Perk features exposed brick, high ceilings, a vintage-rustic look to their cafe, and a warm-welcoming feeling. The Cafe opened just over two years ago and its unique style brings in a wide variety of people. Their food menu offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian arrangements. Just one of the many dishes that are served at this fabulous Cafe and Restaurant, is their Baby Bella Mushrooms. This delicious dish is served with “sauteed pepper, parmesan cheese, cream cheese stuffing and topped with melted cheddar cheese(https://www.facebook.com/downtowncentralperk).

The cafe also offers live, local music with open mic and other scheduled events. The cafe offers a quiet place to study, read, listen to music, hang out with friends, and is just another great hidden treasure of Davenport. I have visited this place a few times and I’m always satisfied with its service and mission of serving direct trade speciality coffee and tea. I suggest this cafe to anyone who is interested in trying healthier choices for food, and if you’re vegan or vegetarian, this is the perfect place for you! SO, stop by at 226 W. 3rd Street to try something new!

Hi readers! My name is Mary Blesz! I am a sophomore at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. I am double majoring in Marketing and Management, with minors in Public Relations and Organizational Leadership! I am involved with Residence Life on campus, and also cannot wait to help with St. Ambrose's Dance Marathon! Helping out the kids is such a fulfilling thing I have done in the past and can't wait to see where this goes! FTK (For the Kids!)When I am not busy with the mountian full of homework I always have, I will normally be seen with all my friends! My friends are great group of people that I have met here at Ambrose! College has opened my eyes to so many new people! It is kind of interesting to me to meet people from all over; like Chicago (lots of my friends are from the area) and even people who loved in the same hometown!!!I have a huge "passion for fashion." I love to see what is most popular, and incorporate the latest trends within my own style. My style has a mixture of what my mood of the day is! One day I can pull out the high-waisted shorts and the crop top and flaunt my ombre hair, and then another day, wear the classic peplum top, with my hair pulled into a fashionable bun! I love reading about the latest trends and expressing it through my own personal style! I hope you enjoy what I can share with you through my own experiences and stories! Enjoy!!!!
