I never thought about what it would be like until I started dating a firefighter. I didn’t think too much about it at first until the first big fire he got called into and then I was a nervous wreck because you never know what could happen. I got through with the help of a few friends the first time and then the second time I was still nervous but it was a little better.

There are some bonuses of dating a first responder. They are just like any other human just with a different job. When you spend time together it feels different because every moment is more precious and you try to spend as much time together as possible. They care about others and give back to the community. They put their lives at risk to help others. First responders are brave and caring.

But there are also some downsides to dating a first responder. Their job can cause you a lot of worry and their schedule might change due to unforeseen circumstances. One time my guy got called in at 7pm and didn’t return until 5am and then had to go back out at 6am since he was still there and not gone yet even though he wasn’t scheduled for that morning’s shift. Whenever I hear sirens I look to see if it’s the rig/car he is typically in or get nervous a bit at first.

Overall if you want to date a first responder that is up to you and everyone might see it a little differently. I was unsure at first because I didn’t know if I could do it. There are some days when the call is really bad that I wonder why I am putting myself through all the worry but then I remember because I really care about him and I know he will make it back to me safe. His buddies are there with him and they all look out for eachother so I know he isn’t alone. It isn’t easy being with a first responder but it definitely is possible and I would still pick to date him time and time again no matter what.
