Colleen Krahn, ’13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Captain. Usually a word that is associated with a leader, a motivator, or someone who inspires. This is especially true for the individuals who are morale captains for St. Ambrose University’s Dance Marathon.

If you have ever stopped into the Campus Recreation office, taken a run around Vander Veer Park, or attended an event that supports Dance Marathon, you’ve seen Colleen Krahn.

Most know Colleen for her lively spirit that she will fully utilize this Saturday at Dance Marathon.  Krahn is a morale captain for SAU Dance Marathon. Her responsibilities as captain include choreographing the dance for her morale team, recruiting dancers and planning the themed hours.

More importantly, she will spend most of Saturday evening motivating the dancers. For eight hours participants will be on their feet. This means that morale captains, like Krahn, will need to get them excited to keep dancing and moving.

Last year, Krahn participated as a dancer in SAU’s Dance Marathon ½. When she heard that St. Ambrose would be having a full Dance Marathon, Krahn wanted to get more involved.

“I knew I wanted to be a part of Dance Marathon since my friends at the University of Iowa participated,” Krahn said. “After having so much fun at the SAU preview event last year, I knew I wanted to get more involved and become a morale captain.”

Krahn says for her, “Dance Marathon is a rewarding, fun and life-changing event.”

When she is not preparing for Dance Marathon, the public relations major enjoys running. In the last year she has participated in three half marathons.

After graduation in May, Krahn hopes to work as an admissions counselor at a college. If the campus doesn’t already have Dance Marathon, Krahn hopes to start it on campus.
