This week’s campus celebrity can be found on the receiving end of “Pie your Morale Captain” or behind the circulation desk at the Library studying away. Senior Callie Lansing is a Morale Captain for Dance Marathon this year and encourages anyone who has not signed up yet to do so. Immediately. Specifically for her Team # 6.
“Once you go to Dance Marathon once, you become addicted and will have to keep going back and getting more and more involved,” Lansing said.
The Dyersville, Iowa, native attended the big event last year just as a dancer but enjoyed it so much she decided to apply for a larger role this year. As it turns out, she has met so many people through Dance Marathon that are dancers, fellow morale captains, committee members and the families and miracle kids. She loves the impact the group can make on so many people.
“I lost a cousin to cancer back in 2010. I dance for him and also for those children who cannot… I love being able to raise money and dance for the children who can’t. It is truly an amazing cause that has an huge impact on so many people,” Lansing said. The kids that they dance for and their families as well as her parents are her biggest role models and influences.
When she is not helping with Dance Marathon duties, the psychology and sociology major is busy applying to grad schools to pursue her dream job of being an occupational therapist. Outside of the classroom, Lansing is involved in Themed Housing, intramural sports on the Mary Little Lambs team and Campus Ministry as a Eucharistic Minister and with service trips. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family, working out and doing anything involved with Dance Marathon.
Three things you didn’t know about this Morale Captain: she is a neat freak and super organized, she was born and raised on a farm which she helps out on when she goes home and she has webbed toes.
Lansing’s favorite quotes are “don’t let the little things bother you and live life to the fullest.” FTK. “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop.”
She is looking forward to seeing everyone on their feet for 10 hours on April 5th at Dance Marathon’s Big Event. For The Kids!
