You might see this week’s campus celebrity playing bass for Jazz Band or even at Rookies sports bar on a Wednesday night. St. Ambrose junior, Brendan Besetzny is a very versatile student. Native to Park Ridge, Ill., Brendan will be graduating in May of 2014, with a major in marketing and music.

Brendan is highly involved in campus activities. He is president and founder of the Marketing Club and just led the group on a trip to Chicago. The club visited Nielson, Solider Field, and Red Frog events. “I look forward to expanding and improving the marketing club,” Brendan said.

Aside from marketing activities, Brendan is involved in the music department. He plays bass in Orchestra, Jazz Band, B#, Stamvoja, and for the musicals. He hopes to improve his musical talents and become the best musician he can be.

The combination of these two very different majors gives Brendan a unique set of skills and experiences that he could use in the future. “After college I want to begin working right away. Once I have saved up enough money and paid for school, I would like to travel and get a dog,” Brendan said. “Blackhawks season tickets are a must, too.”

Brendan’s future goals are exciting, but he also wants to focus on his time at St. Ambrose. He likes the independence of college. “I like being on my own, being able to do what I want, when I want, without teachers or parents watching over me,” he said.

Brendan has a connection to the campus atmosphere and small size of St. Ambrose. He gives advice to underclassmen:  “Enjoy freshman year! Looking back, I thought I was very busy as a freshman, but now as a junior I realize how much free time I actually had back then. Take advantage of free time while you can!”

Outside of school, the busy junior has some exciting hobbies like cycling, long boarding, golfing, rock climbing, and snowboarding.

Here’s an interesting fact from Brendan about himself: “I have a signed letter from President Obama congratulating me upon receiving the Eagle Scout award. This letter is in a binder along with many others, including from former President Bush (W), and the CEO of Wendy’s.”

Take an example from Brendan and get the most out of your college years! Whether in your personal or professional life.  Make sure to spend your time wisely.
