This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Hey all! In Honor of Black History Month I wanted to take the time to Spot Light Arayah Westmoreland! Below are a few fun facts and a little about who Arayah is!

  • Name: Arayah Westmoreland
  • Major: Social Work
  • What are you involved in on campus? Latinos Unidos and Black Student Union
  • Fun fact? My mom and I share the same birthday.
  • Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? A social worker working with children in the foster care system.
  • What piece of advice would you give to your younger self? Keep pushing through even when it’s hard, no one said it was going to be easy. Keep going and hold onto faith.
  • Who is someone you look up to? I look up to my older sister.
  • What is your favorite part of Black History Month? Learning new things about Black activists and teaching others as well. And then I can’t forget the stingers that the Black Student Union started, ”The Blues” and ”The Rosa Parks”!
  • Words of wisdom or for success? “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” – Booker T. Washington
