8 things I Wish I Knew When Growing Up

Veronica Alfred Student Contributor, St. Ambrose University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.
  • Take your time and be a kid. You don’t need to rush to grow up.
    • I spent a lot of my childhood competing musically and playing softball. I don’t regret either. I just wish I would have had more time being a kid.
  • You are not defined by your successes and/or failures.
    • Don’t compare yourself to others. There is no point.
  • When you need to rest, just rest!
    • I was always told to work through the pain and keep playing hard.
  • It’s okay to speak about darker things.
  • Disabilities aren’t a dirty word.
    • You don’t need to hide it from others. It is okay to speak about it.

  • Be unforgivably YOU
    • Don’t let others put you down. It is okay to be yourself and be proud of it. Others may judge you but their opinion of you doesn’t matter.
  • Somethings are just a number
  • Be an original you weren’t born to die a copy!
    • Have self confidence and self worth. Don’t be something that someone else wants you to be otherwise you will never be happy and you will never live up to their expectations.
