On October 25th at 1:00 pm in the Malcolm X Plaza, the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) organized a student and faculty walkout to order an end to the genocides in Gaza. This was a part of a nationwide walkout that 100 campuses across the country participated in to demand an end to U.S. military funding to Israel, that our universities fully divest from weapons corporations which arm Israel’s occupation and genocide in Gaza, and to protest the atrocities happening against Palestinians in Gaza.

GUPS was not alone in their protests, numerous other student organizations joined in solidarity and gave moving speeches at the event including Movimiento Estudiantil para Liberación de las Américas, Black Student Union, Pacific Islanders Club, League of Filipino Students, and more. Over 300 people attended the walkout here at San Francisco State and participated in the chants, songs, and impactful speeches.

GUPs released a statement that their support for Palestinian Liberation remains unwavering. If you are interested in attending future events to show your support for Gaza follow @sfsugups on instagram where they post regular updates of events to partake in. Furthermore if you are looking to stay educated or refer someone to a place to educate themselves on the current events taking place, GUPS has a link in their bio on instagram to a website called Decolonize Palestine which includes a historical timeline of Palestine, an FAQ page, a Myth database and more. As the atrocities occurring in Gaza continue to deeply impact our emotions and even our overall concepts of humanity SFSU Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), offers and encourages crisis and individual counseling appointments, groups to address various mental health concerns, and our Let’s Talk drop-in consultations (for non-crises).
