The Good, The Bad, and Everything About the New Apple Watch 3: A Review

The last time I wore a watch was in the sixth grade. It was velcro, purple, and had flowers on it. Needless to say, I “lost” it the same week I got it from my mom. (Sorry mom, it was really ugly.)

I’ve never been a watch person, but as soon as I saw the Keynote on the new Apple Watch, I was hooked.

Did I ever see myself wearing a watch? Kind of. But do I need one now? Hell yeah.

After wearing it (religiously) for a week solid, here are some pros and cons to the new Apple Watch Series 3.

Pros

1. Useful

To be honest, my first impression of the the idea of an Apple Watch wasn’t a great one. Why do I need a watch when I already have everything on my iPhone? I thought it wasn’t going to be useful for anything other than working out and checking the time.

After using it for a week, I’ve found myself using my iPhone less frequently, since I’ve been able to check my notifications, emails, agenda, and the time, all on my wrist.

2. Promotes health

Entering my second year of college, I knew I wanted to be more conscious of my health.

I never would have thought that my Apple Watch would be such a vital tool for monitoring my health. It has features that allow me to change my diet, workout routine, and sleep schedule with ease.

Being able to track my activity, heart rate, and taking time out of my day to just focus on my breath were things that never crossed my mind and are now incorporated into my daily routine.

All of the health features are among my favorite components of the Apple Watch because they’ve helped me feel healthier, less stressed, and happier.

3. Stylish

When I first got the Apple watch, I was kind of skeptical about the band color. Would the watch be something I would wear every single day? If so, would there be a band that would match my wardrobe that’s full of sorority t-shirts, sweaters, and bright and floral tops?

The answer was yes.

The bands are also interchangeable, so if you’re not totally in love with the ones that come with the Apple Watch, stores like Amazon and Target have loads of cute options.

Cons

1. Cellular option

A nifty thing about the Apple Watch Series 3 is that it has a cellular option, meaning that you can receive cellular phone calls, texts, and more from your watch. For me, this option doesn’t work 24/7 and at times, I can’t receive texts unless I have my phone in my pocket, which is annoying.

2. Price

The Apple Watch 3 starts at $329 and if you decide to get it with cellular, it’ll start at $399. Along with tax and Apple Care, I payed more than I originally expected.

3. Not as user-friendly as other Apple products

I’ve been a loyal Apple customer since I was 11-years-old and it’s always been easy for me to use these products without instructions or any kind of direction from anybody. When I received my watch, I had no clue what to do. I ended up needing help from one of the Apple Store employees to set it up.

I’ve had it for a week now and there are some features I’m still not sure how to use, but I’m sure with time I’ll get better at it.

To buy or not to buy?

If you can afford to buy the Apple Watch 3, then go for it! As someone who is always on the go, it’s been definitely useful. It’s definitely not something you should break your bank over, but then again, it’s always a good idea to treat yo’self.
