Apartment Essentials Every Collegiate Needs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

After completing my first year of college, the realization of important items that never is talked about dawned on me. Your freshman year brings upon situations you could never imagine. So, here are three of my tips on surviving college with staple items that make your college experience a bit easier.

A Vacuum –

Recommendation: Dirt Devil

A vacuum or hand-held vacuum is an essential staple for college. It can be easily between housemates or roommates and stowed away. For me, I purchased myself a simple Dirt Devil from Target and the rest was history. It comes in clutch when you drop setting powder, paper clippings, and even to the filth that accumulates from shoes and backpacks.

An Iron –

Recommendation: Rival Compact Iron

An iron may seem like an extravagant item to have, but it comes in handy in college. From internship interviews or presentations, wrinkled clothes just won’t cut it. Compact irons are easily available at Target and fit in your closet. Save yourself the embarrassment of wrinkled clothing and invest in an iron.

Kitchenware –

Recommendation: Pyrex Glass Set

Having at least one plastic/glass container in your dorm or kitchen is a definite essential. From storing fruits to leftover meals, having food containers can help you store those leftovers you thought you go bad in your fridge. Personally, I love having glassware as I’m not too fond of having plastic touching my food, but remember that if you do choose the plastic container route, always remember to never heat up your food in them.

Three staples that saved me in my freshman year of college, and will surely carry over this year.
