Getting involved on campus is one of the best ways to get to know new people, have fun, make memories and maybe even find a new passion. Whether you are a freshman or you are a returning student looking for ways to get more connected to campus, here are five ways to kickstart your involvement at San Francisco State.

1. Join a club or organization

Whatever your interests may be, SF State probably has a club for it. Interested in the fashion industry? There’s a organization for that. Want to learn more about Japanese anime? There’s a club for that. If you are interested in joining greek life, there are both local and national sororities, even ethnic sororities as well. College is all about trying new things, and joining a club is one of the best opportunities to go out of your comfort zone and pursue your interests. 2. Go to school sponsored events

The Associated Students Inc., SF State’s student government, is always having events on campus. From shows at the on-campus music venue to movie nights on top of Cesar Chavez, there is always a cool event to attend. Don’t miss out on the all the cool things that happen on campus by liking ASI on Facebook!

3. Get active

Get your fitness on and go to one of the fitness classes put on by SFSU Campus Rec. They offer classes ranging from samba to power yoga. They also offer open gym hours including open hours to swim in the pool. More interested in team sports? SF State also has intramural sports. Grab some friends or find a team in need of another player. Get fit while meeting friends. It’s a win-win. For more information about campus recreation, check out their website here

4. Attend sports games

Not sporty? You can still get the thrill of sport by attending athletic events. Contrary to popular belief, SF State does have sports teams. Come out and show your support for our Gators. Sometimes they give out free t-shirts to spectators. For more information about when our teams play at home, check out the SFSU Athletics website here

5. Join major clubs and attend academic events.

Get ahead in school by joining an academic club or association. They are a great way to get valuable face time with your professors and other industry professionals and network with your peers. Also, many departments hold academic events like conferences and lectures which can be additional time to network. Plus, all of this looks great on a resume! For more information, check your department’s website or ask a professor.
