The first day of fall has arrived, and even though the weather in San Francisco still feels like summer (for now), I just can’t help getting excited for all the wonderful fall themed things the season has to offer. This includes, fall seasonal drinks such as the famed pumpkin spiced latter, fall clothes such as cozy sweaters and boots, and finally fall décor.

Now usually when it comes to decorating my apartment for specific seasons, I usually don’t spend that much time in decorating my space for fall, and save my time and effort in decorating for the big holiday season of Christmas.

However, for this year I noticed the cute and colorful autumnal decorations that stores like Pier 1 Imports, and Homegoods are selling, and decided to spice up my apartment with some fun and colorful fall decorations to usher in the vibes of the fall equinox. Hence, I came up with a list of five cheap and cute ways you can use to bring the style of the fall season into your home.

1) Pumpkins: This is probably the most popular and easiest way to decorate your space for fall since you can buy pumpkins at any grocery store for a cheap price ($3.99 each at Trader Joe’s). They come in many different fun colors such as bright orange, burnt red white, and some even have variegated colors as well, with bright stripes of yellow.

These are a cute autumnal item to place at your door – step, or if you buy the smaller sized ones you can put them on your kitchen windowsill or simply place them on your kitchen table as a center piece arrangement. Nothing screams, “fall” more than the sight of pumpkins. They also make a great Halloween decoration; you can get creative and carve your own jack-o-lantern, or simply draw fun faces on them with a sharpie to show your Halloween spirit. 2) Dried leaves with pumpkin and pomegranate potpourri: This is a fun way to bring in some yummy fall scents and a pop of color into your arrangement. Along with pumpkins, pomegranates are another seasonal fruit, which thrives during fall. Don’t be afraid to mix different scents like the warm spiciness of a pumpkin, and the fruity tart taste of a pomegranate into a bowl to display. Find some colorful leaves that have changed into their autumnal colors of orange, yellow and red, and throw them in the mix to bring a slice of the outdoors into your space. The two scents aren’t too overpowering and will provide a pleasant mix of fall scents. My personal favorite potpourri is the “yankee candle spiced pumpkin potpourri” ($14.99) from Bed Bath and Beyond, and the “pomegranate potpourri” ($5.97) from kirklands.com.

3) Cozy throw blankets with bright fall colors: Let’s face it, it will be cuddle season soon as the days start to get a bit chillier, and you’ll need a warm and fuzzy blanket on hand to share with a cuddle buddy, or to wrap yourself in when watching a movie or studying. This is an easy and practical way to dress up your space for fall. Stow a knit or woven blanket in a cheerful yellow or vibrant red color at the foot of your bed, so you can curl up when the cold weather hits. And when Halloween comes closer, have an extra throw with a playful Halloween print on your couch or chair for added comfort and coziness. My top picks include the “grand hotel woven cotton throw blanket” in camel ($23.02) from overstock.com, and the fleece “orange witch” blanket ($20.00) from etsy.com.

4) Fall Scented Candles: Bring in even more decadent falls scents, (cause lets face it, you can never have to much of pumpkin anything around fall, so bring on the pumpkin lattes, pumpkin candles, and pumpkin pies!) to your space with yummy scented pumpkin or cinnamon scented candles. Candles just add a nice ambiance to any setting, and if you are in the middle of stressing out during midterms, there is nothing like lighting a candle and having a bubble bath. So keep a few candles on hand to decorate your space, and to use as an instant stress diffuser. My favorite fall candle picks include, the “Sonoma life and style pumpkin spice jar candle” ($4.99) from Kohl’s and the “cinnamon stick tea light candles” ($10.00) from Yankee Candles.

5) Halloween Décor: As the 13st of October starts to come closer, it is always fun to add some festive Halloween spirit with some creepily themed Halloween bowls stocked with your favorite candy. Stringing orange lights in your space also adds a festive touch, and if you want to go all out, you can consider buying fake cobwebs to place around your dorm or apartment. My top picks for Halloween décor include, “the animated monster hand in orange bowl” ($16.99) from Amazon, “orange string lights” ($7.99) from Party City, and “Halloween cobwebs” ($4.99) from Walmart.
