Single Ladies: OWN your Valentine`s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Diego chapter.

Just like many other girls out there, I myself have never had a “Valentine.” February 14th is not a day to be bitter about not having a boyfriend, it is a day to celebrate all the love you have in your life. Whether it is your mom, dad, sister, brother, friends, coworkers, etc. you are surrounded by people who truly care about you. What is not to celebrate?!?

As a single woman, it is important to take care of yourself and your needs. Here are a few ideas on how to spend your Valentine`s Day celebrating you and the amazing love in your life. Be a non-bitter singleton and enjoy yourself!!

1.      Get a Massage or Mani/Pedi

Valentine`s is about love. Spend the day loving YOURSELF and go ahead and pamper yourself. A massage or mani/pedi have multiple health benefits, such as it improves your circulation! After a rough first two weeks of the semester, I don’t think anyone should turn down this option.

2.      Bake Valentine`s Day Goodies

What better way to “treat yo self” than to bake some delicious treats to indulge on by yourself or with some friends? If you disfavor being in the kitchen, volunteer to be the taste tester or go to one of San Diego`s amazing bakeries and pick up some sweet treats! Some of my favorite bakeries include: Uncle Biff`s Killer Cookies in Hillcrest, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Extraordinary Desserts, and Babycakes in Hillcrest.

3.      Send a Letter to a Loved One

If you are embracing the single life but know someone that is not too fond of the idea, send them a letter or care package. Kindness spreads, so you could start something amazing or at least brighten up someone`s day! Valentine`s day is about spreading the love, so reach out to anyone and everyone. Some ideas are your favorite barista, grandparents, security guard, etc. They will love it!

4.      Secret Valentine Exchange

Much like a “Secret Santa,” you and your friends could participate in a Secret Valentine. You can make it as cheesy or practical as you want. Get a group of friends and draw names out of a hat. Whoever’s name you draw, you have to get them a gift in the price range you all agree to. For the Secret Valentine Reveal, pick up your favorite chick flick and take out and make the most of your night. Celebrating good friends is way better than celebrating a not-so-good boyfriend.

5.      Road Trip

Road trips are ALWAYS a good idea. Even if it is just getting in the car and driving until you get tired. Go for the weekend or go for the day. It is nice to get away from the town you live in, as sometimes a change in scenery can do the heart good!

Happy Valentine`s Day everyone! Whether you are single or taken, I hope your day is full of happiness and love! XOXO
